Should I set up a new account to test on a non-daily driver?

I usually install beta software on my phone and iPad but there are a few apps that I need to work 100%. The most important one is the app for my DJI drone. Can't have an issue with that while I'm flying. I've read reports that the app currently isn't planing nice with the new operating system.

I have a spare iPad Air 2 that I'd like to test iOS11 on. Would it be better to set up a separate iCloud account then register that with the Beta program? That way there wouldn't be any issues that might cross over to my other devices? Or, would I have no worries running the new operating system on one iPad and 10.3.3 on everything else?

I think a drawback to having everything separate is I'd have no real reason to use it. No need to check messages, texts, emails or anything else because it wouldn't be linked to my regular account.

Yes, you are being overly cautious. Just use your regular Apple ID and enjoy iOS 11

Spare device = only way to beta test. Second account = meh, debatable, but I wish more people were as cautious as you. So many rush to put the latest beta on their one-and-only phone so that they can show off to their mates down the pub and proudly state that they are "a beta tester for Apple." Days later they're back here condemning and hating Apple for ruining their lives.

So it seems like the second account can be good but might be overkill. And there probably shouldn't be any issues that can leak over to my daily drivers (iMessage, photos ect...)? What about Files? Will it cause any issues?

Stop talking like people are just dumb. The majority just want to try new things, and probably the majority of them have only one iOS device.

There is no problem to install beta on your everyday device as long as you are ready to restore if things don't run as you expected but as long as you have a backup and a computer around, you are just fine with only one device.

I backed up my spare iPad, cleared it out then started from scratch with a new account and iOS11. Seems to work fine but... it's not my regular account so I don't really have a reason to use it. I might just back up the rest of my devices then update them. I can always go back to 10.3.3 if I need to.

My main concern is the app for my drone. That has to work 110%.
