Should I still wait in hopes of Airpods 2 this year?

Reading the round up and wondering if I should hold out hope for a release of Airpods 2 this year? I would kick myself if they came out 15 days after buying the current version. I know it probably won't be much of an upgrade but why buy an Apple product at the end of a cycle if you don't have to.

I think it's safe to assume if they were going to release new AirPods this year, they would have done it alongside the iPhone Xs/Xr/Max and Watch 4.

There might be an event in October, so it’s probably best to wait. And if there isn’t, it’s not much longer until Black Friday, and maybe you’ll find the current version cheap. http://iphonews.com/apple-october-2018-date-what-new-devices-to-expect/
