Hey friends - any comments are greatly appreciated!

I have had MobileMe since it first debuted and have had a love affair with it since!

I'm not adverse to switching to iCloud, as I have no other choice, but is now a good time to do it?

I'm hearing so many horror stories of lost emails, lost contacts, etc - overall, is now a good time to switch?

And second - are there any major differences between iCloud and MobileMe? Contacts, emails, and calendars all seem to stay solid, with syncing over the air, right?

Thank you all for any feedback!

I thought that I had no problems to speak of until yesterday. My only problem is public calendars that I share can not be subscribe to from non-iCloud users (I.e. google calendar gets error connecting - this is reported on other threads). I guess I can live with it for a while but maybe you can't. If you are not the type that always likes "playing" with new software like me then you may want to wait for a while. On the other hand all other features for my wife and I and several others I personally know are not having any other problems.

I'm waiting. MobileMe is working perfectly and I can live without photostream or find my friends for the time being. I will let them work out the kinks in iCloud and migration from MobileMe to iCloud.

Do any of you guys notice a change in speed with iCloud after switching from MobileMe? The demos sure made iCloud look like syncs were instantaneous between devices. I usually notice some lag time (but not much) for all of my devices to update with MobileMe.

I would wait until many of the bugs are ironed out. I switched from MobileMe to iCloud and iOS5 right away because I wanted to get it done, I knew there would be bugs. I like new products right when they come out, but now that I have experienced iCloud and have set everything up, the bugs are annoying so unless you gotta have it right now like I do, I would wait.

Bugs I hate: email issues, bookmarks issues, iTunes wifi sync not reliable at all.

And I do love iCloud, bugs and all. Love taking a picture with my camera and it just shows up right on my iPad and computer.

The bookmarks are brutal - I had to turn it off as it kept making copy after copy of all my bookmark folders. I had over 500 folders (I really only have 9). I cleaned them out, everything was fine and the next morning I had over 500 again, including folders I deleted months ago. After the cleaning it up a 3rd time and they came back I gave up and turned it all off. Not ready for prime time...

mobile Me to iCloud move - DON"T DO IT !!!!

Do NOT NOT NOT move to iCloud.
I, too, have been in love with Mobile Me for several years now. I migrated to iCloud day after iPhone5 was available. Have NOTHING but trouble since then. apple doesn't know how to fix- or won't admit there's a problem- but I have spent many hours on the phone with them and they are unable to solve my problems. Each time they end up saying..."Well, when that finishes, you should be working fine. Call back if you're not"
Calendar items don't sync about 99% of the time- although, occassionally, one appt actually WILL pop through to all the devices and calendars. Contacts? Fuggedaboudit. Most of the time, when I click on the "Contacts" on my iphone, I have a totally blank, white page. Same for the "phone" icon- so you can't even call your "Favorites" or even get a phone keypad to dial a number if you know it. In those cases the only way I can make a call is to work backwards from an existing text message.
I have "contacts" and "phone" available on my phone about 30% of the time. Rest of the time- just not there. SOMETIMES- hard re-boot of the phone brings them back- but usually not.
Having become SO dependent on my phone for contacts and calendars, I feel really helpless.
FYI, I have set up my iCloud to sync with Outlook on a PC- Maybe if you're not trying to do that you'll have better luck- but it sure seems to me that iCloud is NOT "ready for prime-time"
Once you do the "mobileme/move" you can't go back. You can still access me.com but you cannot migrate back to the MM system. Since you still have access to it until June 2012... stay with it and hope that apple figures this out. I'm so SICK Of being on the phone with them- and having no contacts- losing appts etc.
I guess I have to give up and sync calendar/contacts thru wired itunes sync but that really defeats the purpose. geeeeeshhhh !
DON"T DO IT !!!!

on the rare ocassion that icloud even SYNCS my calendar items... it is VERY sluggish. LIKE ABOUT 12 HOURS SLUGGISH !
And that's when it syncs events AT ALL... which is only about 1% of the time.
This was SOOO not ready for heavy users with Outlook synchronization. I bought 64GB phone so I wouldn't have to worry- and end up having to archive everything over 30 days old in Outlook before I can even set up iCloud at ALL. Yet, iCloud says I'm only using 3 of 25GB of space.
This STINKS !!!
I'd pay the subscription AGAIN to be able to go back to Mobile Me

In my situation, where I don't have any iOS devices and am only working with a single iMac 24, I think I'll hold off. About the only thing that I'm really doing now that my old iPhone died is keeping things in sync for when I fire up my experimental OS installs in VMWare (test ground for my own apps that can get messy, etc...), and a separate OS install on a partition for utilities when I need to run repairs on my main OS drive.

From what I understand, they dropped KeyChain sync, which I find really handy when I do fire up one of the other OS installs. I do utilize the iDisk a little bit to pass files over to my sister from time to time, as well, which I can easily find alternatives.

Current bugs aside, can anybody come up with any compelling reasons that I may want to consider moving over to iCloud right now with just one machine in use pretty much all the time?

Have been using iCloud since it's inception as a beta and not had any real issues with the actual iCloud bit - before release there were some problems with the AppleID verification but these seem resolved now.

iCloud seems faster. It's certainly no slower.

I agree. Seems fine, performance wise. I like the simple interface. I've since moved to it 100%, away from Google. Can't say I made a mistake.
