Should I trade it in or no?

Hello, so I am new to the forums and I need advice from more knowledgable people. I have a 15in Mid 2015 MacBook Pro, 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 16GB Ram, 512 SSD, and both Discreet Vega Graphics and Intel Iris Graphics on board. Apple is offering me a 250$ trade in value for this MacBook Pro and I am being offered a 2019 1000$ MacBook Air (student discount). My question is should I trade my current MacBook Pro for a new 2019 MacBook Air (or other). My current MacBook works perfectly fine but I am worried about losing software support eventually and then not being able to get good money for a trade in value. I am a college student who just uses the Mac for emails, word processing, and internet browsing. And if not the MacBook Air, what other MacBook should I get then?

Thanks.

I'd keep the 2015. My reasons: almost no manufacturing defects (unlike all macbooks 2016-2019 and their butterfly keyboards and some other issues), still very good performance and display, reasonable size trackpad, scissor keyboard, physical escape and function keys, physical HDMI, SD card reader, USB-A ports, mag safe. I don't think you'd be gaining much for your 750$, and 250$ trade in seems super low for such machine. I think when apple perfects the new 16'MBP next year, then it will make sense to upgrade to that or to the new Macbook Air/ 14 inch Macbook Pro with scissor keyboard. But if you use your Macbook pro only for student stuff, I say you might as well use it till it dies or till the battery dies. The 2-3 years of support it still has is worht the 250$ in my opinion. I have the same model, but only the base configuration. Super happy with it.

Something is not right. $250 is way too low of a trade-in for a mid 2015 MBP 15".

As a test I just went to the Apple web page, selected a new 2019 MBA, selected a Trade-in, entered my mid 2015 MBP 15" serial number (same specs as yours except it has a 2.8 GHz processor) and Apple offered $780 trade-in. Is there a problem with your MBP that wasn't mentioned in your post?

EDIT: BTW, just to be correct, the dGPU on a mid 2015 MBP 15" is a AMD Radeon R9 M370X and not a "Vega".

It has some dents at the bottom of it and scratches

I bought a 2015 13" MBP from B&H Photo after I purchased a 2016 with the messy keyboard and task bar. I wanted something with the old keyboard. I would not trade in anything - the quotes are not necessarily what you get - it is through 3rd party.

I have the 2015 15" MBP similar to yours in pristine condition and Apple offered $480 trade in but when I realized that I paid $2200 for it, I'll keep it..

It has the pre- butterfly KB so I am keeping it...

Runs latest OS: Catalina just fine.

Maybe when the second revised MBP 16" becomes available, I will consider it...

I'd say yes for the portability of the Air. I see no reason for a MacBook Pro for your usage.
