My workflow is like 20 tabs in chrome, MS word, powerpoint, excel, acrobat, safari, onenote, preview,, calendar, photos, messenger, facetime all open at once. I do not want to close anything. Occasionally play some Apple TV.

I traded my M1 MacBook Air because I wanted that new mini led screen. My Air has been fine as far as performance goes for anything I've thrown at it. My use is very minimal though. Just surfing, photos, email and videos.

Probably not, but you can tell better than us.

In my experience, MS Office apps for Mac are poorly designed and they take a lot of RAM and processing power, much more than they should. Perhaps this may be a reason for opting for the Pro instead.

Are you encountering any problems while using the Air with that workflow?

I traded mine for the 16 inch. I wish apple made a 15 inch MacBook Air. I don’t need all the pro power. I just web browse mostly. But I like larger screens.

I did. My new 14" will be here in a few weeks. Love my M1 Air, but the new 14" MB Pro was too tempting to pass up. Great screen, SD card slot, ports, tons of power. I'll take it! Apple gave me $620 for my base Air, so roughly $1300 out of pocket for the new MB Pro. Yeah, that's a lot of greenbacks, but hey, it's only money, right? Gotta spend it on something before I die...

I would like a brighter panel. It's probably only slowed a handful of times when I had tons open.

If I may be so bold, I avoid using my laptop in direct sunlight. My wife is sitting outside on the patio in the bright Spanish sun right now with a just thin umbrella above her. She isn't complaining about brightness, I don't either when I sit out there with her. I'm only inside because it's kinda hot out there now.

I also make a point of closing it if I don't think I'll be needing it anytime soon. If I do need it, it opens again fast enough.

But to answer your original question, no, I don't think you should trade it in, because each time you do, it costs money, just a bit. And, there will always be something better, just around the corner. My last MacBook did it's job for 10 years, and still does, to a point. However, if you have the cash, why not?

I wasn't given a trade in option. Where was that?!?

Wondering what you all got for your trade ins? From Apple I presume? Because when I last checked they wanted to offer £500 for a M1 MBP with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD ?

Should I go to MBA M1 16gb or the new MBP M1PRO 16GB?

My workflow is like, Outlook, Excel, SAP GUI JAVA or alternative using SAP GUI on Windows 10 with parallels.

Thanks

as i mentioned in another post - I have the 8gb 512 m1 and had to get one as my 2012 13" was heating up and was becoming unusable for basic work tasks. I had to get the m1. However, after a year of using, the 14" is more suited due to the ports i want, higher ram and space as 513 doesn't cut it anymore for me and little more power when using ARM windows for my work apps. I do noticed lots of memory swap issues over the last few months when doing multi tasking. Also screen real estate is important since i seem to have too many windows open and have to keep moving them around and is getting annoying even though there is spaces. like to see a screen comparison on the 13 vs 14 vs 16 with windows open and see how they all look and feel. I had a 16" before returning it when it first came out and loved it, minus the weight :(

It was on the Apple site. I'm trading my base M1 MBP in as 8GB isn't quite enough when I have everything open, and the 256 SSD likely got thrashed with all the swapping. 16/512 is a better combo combined with a bigger, brighter screen.

If I were in your situation in terms of use case, I think I'd value the portability over screen brightness and webcam. It's hard to say. It's really personal preference, which features you value most, and if you happen to want lots of overhead in terms of available performance.

You should have waited for the new 16.5" M3 Air Pro Max+, coming out right after you get your puny little 16. It will be a game changer for consumer grade fun.
