So I just finished jailbreaking my phone yesterday. I downloaded winterboard, 2 themes , sbsettings and a few tweaks like icons and lockscreens. I love all the options with jailbreaking but after the jailbrealing its just eating up my battery!....Im thinking about unjailbreaking it. Should I?

If you updated to use Blackra1n or used Pwnage Tool Did you choose set up as new ?

Many or us believe battery problems can occur as a result of choosing restore to backup.

If you just did it yesterday, I would wait. Maybe you were just playing with it more than normal or something. I have the odd day once a month or so where my battery seems to drain fast, but it's usually due to me using it more than normal.

Maybe yesterday but today I was working and I didnt use my phone much but to read a few emails, phonecalls and I downloaded a icon from cydia a few hours ago when I noticed how much my battery was drained. I was at 85% this morning and after work after I got home I was at 20%.

How do I recalibrate? What is the purpose of recalibrating?

As I said, you do it by running your phone's battery down to automatic shutoff and then charging overnight. The purpose is to improve the accuracy of the battery meter; you have no way of knowing how accurate either of those readings are unless you've calibrated. When the battery meter is off, very often the battery will appear to drain faster during particular parts of the cycle.

But how does calibrating make my battery NOT drain so fast? I understand what you mean but I mean does it matter if its 100% to 35% or 85% to 20% if it still drains the battery fast you know what I mean? Thanx for the advice though Im going to calibrate it anyway but I still want to have the battery life I had before I jailbroke the phone.

Because you don't know that it actually drained 65% of your battery in that period of time. Maybe your battery was actually at 75% in the morning and 35% in the evening? An uncalibrated battery doesn't appear to drain at a constant rate.

It doesnt make any sense. Your saying that since day one when I got my phone that my battery meter has been inaccurate? If not then jailbreaking iPhone's causes the battery meter to be off by some degree. And if thats the case then it would be a logical assumption to believe that jailbreaking my iPhone has caused my battery to drain faster.....wow did I just spock that line?!...lol

You should definitely restore your iPhone and never rejailbreak again. Clearly that's what you want to hear.

Na its not what I want to hear. I want to keep the jailbreak and find a solution to the battery drain. come on lets not get out of hand I asked a honest question seeking an educated answer from people who have extensive knowledge on jailbreaking iPhones. All I do is follow instructions on how to jailbreak im not any kind of programmer or anything like that. Listen if you feel like im being some kind of smart ass or know it all you dont have to respond anymore trust me I wont get offended.

thelatinist is correct. It may not solve your problem, but what he's saying is pretty common knowledge whenever a battery is involved. Don't argue with people trying to help you =P

To break it down for you, The battery in your phone is governed by a tiny chip. The chip tries to calculate how much power is in the battery, and how rapidly that power is being used, to give you that fun graphic telling you how much battery is left.

That's all well and good, however the chip is never 100% accurate, and can sometimes be very off. It might think you've got 20% battery left (and display the low battery warning) when there's actually the equivalent of 35% of the battery's actual power remaining.

To make a long story short, fully draining the battery to shutdown and then fully charging the battery to 100% makes the computer guess more accurately.

Im taking his advice and draining my battery now. But what Im saying is that for 2 weeks my battery wasnt draining that fast. After I jailbroke the phone It rapidly drained my battery. I want my phone jailbroken im not looking for someone to tell me that I should just unjailbrake. Look at how he came at me, he even edited his post. Im not out to argue with someone who is trying to help me. kind of defeats the purpose! anywho im going to drain the battery and recharge to 100% and if I still get the same result as today I will continue to look for more information on this as I am doing now. Thank you.

You think it drained rapidly. You don't know, because you know neither how much battery you had at the beginning of the day nor how much battery you had at the end of the day. You know what your battery meter said you had, but you cannot be certain of its accuracy. I'm not saying that it's not draining fast, but there's no way you can know until you've calibrated your battery so you can actually see how fast it's draining. If you've never calibrated your battery, your battery meter very likely will not tell you that. It's the first step in troubleshooting any battery drainage issue.

I apologize if I responded angrily, but I was angry. I know what I'm talking about, and I found it offensive to be told that what I was saying made no sense. In the future, you might try "I don't understand" instead of blaming your lack of understanding on those who are trying to help you.

I didnt blame anyone for my lack of knowledge. Your making it seem like im attacking people trying to help me. Come on im not a child or a stubborn teenager. Were all adults here im not trying to disrespect you or anyone else on these or any other forums. If I offended you or any other person then I sincerly apologize.

u should unjailbreak for the following reasons
-get ur warranty back, cuz if something goes wrong where its completely busted while its been jailbroken, ur out a few hundred bucks.
-get ur battery life
-avoid slow phone
-avoid the iphone worm
-stick with apple's defaults to ensure ur safe use of the iphone
-avoid downloading illegal/pirated apps
-avoid getting hacked, which is possible only on jailbroken phones

Try uninstalling sbsettings.....my phone battery was draining fast, after uninstalling sbsettings i found quite a lot of difference in battery life.

It could be sbs settings, could be winterboard bla bla bla. I did a restore from a backup and found my battery life to be horrible. I have read countless forums and have found people reporting mobile substrate, rotation inhibitor, winterboard, sbs settings and on and on to be the cause of battery drain.
So I proceeded to remove Cydia apps one by one. Nothing helped. Did a restore and started from scratch and its much better now. You better off to do the same. And pay close attention the apps you put on your phone, and dont go download crazy right away. Use it without sbs settings for a day, then try it for a day. Same with winterboard. It will be the only way to truely tell whats causing the drain.

recalibrate: charge completely to 100% then let the phone drain to automatic shutoff. then recharge to 100% again.

This worked for me. After i installed winterboard my battery drain in 2 hours. Recalibration fixes this.

I let it drain last night and charged it over night. Im draining it again since I have to drain it from 100% then im going to recharge. I'll report back tomorrow with results. Thanks

okay I recalibrated the battery and uninstalled sbsettings and everything except for 1 theme and the fireball 3g icon before I recalibrated and after 1 hour i went from 100% to 80% and I got 1 phone call which lasted 3 minutes.
I think Im just going to deal with it for now though. I reeeeeally dont want to un jailbreak it...lol
