Hello, I have about 8 iPhone 3G that some of my friends gave me to do them a favor and unlock it for them. I just wanted to know if it is worth trying to unlock these phones with all the issues people are having with wifi, YouTube etc. I don't want to end up screwing any phones since I will be responsible for it. Any comments?

My 3G has been unlocked for a long time. If you want you can use pwnage tool to jailbreak the phone, and then ultrasn0w to unlock it, or you can use Blacksra1n to jailbreak the phone and blacksnow to unlock the phone. Both are very easy. There is nothing that a DFU restore won't fix (if you run into any problems).
