Should I update my iMac?

Hi!

I'm wondering if I should install El Capitan on my iMac which is running Mavericks. Is Mavericks faster than El Capitan? How much? I've recently been thinking about it because I've got my 5s with iOS 9 and can't sync Notes app so it's a little bit annoying.

El Capitan will run great on those specs. I was running it as a test on 2008 MBP with the 2.4GHz C2D and it run great. I find it's even faster than Mavericks or Yosemite personally

I upgraded to El Capitan and had to come back to Yosemite because of USB sound problems, and mail hogging up al my system memory, bringing my iMac to a crawl. I would wait a couple of El capitan updates maybe then Apple will get it right.

FWIW, I was running 10.10 on my 2009 iMac which is a lesser computer than yours, and I just upgraded to 10.11 a couple days ago. I did an in-place upgrade leaving everything on; user customizations, documents, apps, users etc...

It probably was the smoothest upgrade experience I've had on a mac so far.

Everything is working as it should and all my peripherals, both wired and wireless, needed no tweaks to work.

After reading some users' negative feedback on the 10.11 update I was really hesitant about updating but my only regret now is not updating sooner.

Just make sure to do a full time-machine backup before you do the update just in case something goes wrong in your particular configuration, that way you can roll back without losing anything.

Edit: I just noticed that 10.11 has fixed a long standing issue I've had since 10.8-10.10 where after I wake the system from sleep, the clock on the log-in window showed the wrong time. No more : )
