I've finally brought an iPhone 3g (on o2 UK payg), and iTunes is telling me that it's firmware is 2.1 and I should update to 2.2. However, after browsing a few threads on here (I only registered today but have been browsing the forums over the past week for research) I understand that firmware 2.2 cannot currently be jailbroken or unlocked.

I'm happy with my phone as it is at the moment, but as I travel abroad quite a lot it would be a huge advantage to be able to use a foreign sim card in my phone. I'd also like to be able to install a video camera application if one is available.

So - is it worth me updating to 2.2 now and hope that a jailbreak is available soon, or stick with the features of 2.1 with the potential to jailbreak whenever I choose?

Thanks.

Hi, glad t hear that you have brought an iPhone 3G :D

2.2 Firmware can be jailbroken and was infact jailbroken by the iPhone dev team within days of it's release.
The 2.2 firmware can also be unlocked using the "yellowsnow" software which has also been developed by the iPhone dev team.

Hope that helps.
