Was just told at Best Buy that I am eligible for a full upgrade.

With the progress of the jailbreak should I upgrade now or wait?

My phone even though its jailbroken has a baseband issue. At first the service was dropping out every 10 minutes and going to no service and then a few minutes later back

That problem went away and now even though service always works my GPS no longer works so my Garmin app and the new Google maps app with voice navigation is useless

If I were you I would wait. I miss my JB far too much and your upgrade isn't going anywhere.

I just edited my original post and forgot to mention that my phone is suffering from a baseband issue. My GPS does not work at all.

Interesting.
Its up to you if you can tolerate it with gps and connectivity issues.
Or if you want to get the i5 now and be a little while on stock firmware till the next JB is out.
Its not easy but I been on stock iphone 5 for months now:D

In that case if you need GPS upgrade it. Hopefully iOS 6 jail break will see release in the next few months anyways.

How'd you screw up your 4S baseband? L

I have a new strategy for phone upgrades. As soon as I'm eligible for a full subsidy, I will get the upgrade. If I'm not ready to give up my current (jailbroken) phone, I will sell the new phone on craigslist and probably get very close to full retail value. Then, when I'm ready, I'll buy the new phone - either unlocked from Apple, or from another source.

The carriers are willing to give back $450 of their high contract fees every two years in the form of an upgrade subsidy. It's kind of silly not to pocket that money as soon as it's available, and get the clock started right away for the next upgrade.

I just did this successfully with an iPhone 5. I bought the upgrade, then promptly sold the phone on craigslist. Buying the phone at an AT&T store allowed me to walk out the door with an unactivated phone in a sealed box and keep my old phone active. I wouldn't have been able to do that if I had bought the phone from Apple or Best Buy.

did what you did and sold the iphone 5, the iphone without a jailbreak is a paperweight. miss lockinfo, sbsettings, bitesms, pandora downloader, zephyr, winterboard too much lol

I wonder what apple thinks when they get that huge rush of upgrades from older iPhones to current-gen iPhones every time a new jailbreak is released.

To be honest, it sounds like your iPhone 4S is giving you trouble, and it'll keep giving you trouble until you do something about it. I would say go to the Apple Store and switch it out, but I know you want to have the option to jailbreak your phone, and if you do that, most likely you'll get a phone that's updated to the latest OS. There's no telling when the iPhone 4S/5 jailbreak will come out so I'd say hold out? I'm not really sure. But if your iPhone 4S keeps getting worse then I'd switch to the 5... :/
