I've bought an 2017 2,1" iMac, the one with 560 pro and Fusion Drive. It came with 8Gb. I'm wondering upgrade it RAM with new modules, I know the risks and about the voided awarranty. RAM Upgrades in an Apple Service Provider is too expensive, especially down here in Brazil.

A friend of my is offering a 2015 27"base model, the one with the R9 M380 with 2Gb GPU.

I could easily use a Samsung's T5 SSD on the 27" iMac and upgrade it RAM easily. But, should I?

I'm afraid that the R9 M380 can't handle all those pixels. I'm a photographer and I use PhaseOne's Capture One and Affinit Photo all the time. Both of they are designed with Metal engine. If that matters.

What do you think?

The top ranked m380 imac on geekbench compute is neck and neck with the 560 pro imac...

Plus, you lose 2gb of vram.

AMD's graphics card nomenclature from the period is a marketing driven maze of confusing passages, all alike. At the time, AMD was selling a mix of GCN 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 chips-- and a few programs ( e.g. blender) use GCN 2.0 or GCN 3.0 specific instructions.Other programs (e.g. Affinity Photo beta) can use the older video cards.
