Hey guys. I just got my iPad three days ago and it's already changed the way I do things. Pooping has never been more fun, going to friends houses is a lot more enjoyable, MyWi makes it usable anywhere and watching movies no longer takes up half of my screen on my Macbook Pro.

I got the 32 gig version and filled up just over 50% of it in the first three days. I'm thinking about taking it back tomorrow and getting a 64 gig (14 day return policy at Best Buy) and I'm somewhat hesitant. I COULD delete certain songs, remove movies after I watch them and constantly monitor my space. Or I could just download movies, songs, apps, and not really ever worry about it. I just don't know if not worrying about it is worth yet another $100

What do you guys think? Maybe I filled up it so fast because I was so excited and wanted to try things out? Maybe with time I'll calm down a bit and stop hoarding movies in HD? I currently have 13 gigs free on it and I'm already looking for more things to add. My reasoning is that 13 gigs is probably the approximate amount of space people get with the 16 gb version, and they make due just fine with that much space!

Talk me out of/into it!

Sure, if you want. I'm perfectly content with 16GB personally. NAS + Air Video = win. Allows me to not completely load up my iPad with movies. I just have Avatar on my iPad currently. Everything else is accessed via NAS.

I just canceled my apple order for my 32gb 3g and changed to a 64gb... If they dont ship it this coming week. ill pick it up in the store on friday and cancel online..

I had a 64gb wifi and then sold it... I really appreciated the space, you can honestly never have to much...

If you don't do it you will regret it for the rest of your life. That is how serious of a decision this really is and you should definitely take our opinions into account as we know you and your needs and financial situation. Infact, every answer we give you will change the rest if your life.

Who cares? Sorry mate I know I'm being rude but come on. Get it or not, just please don't make a thread later detailing your decision as it's a decision we've all made. Hell I tossed up which one to get. But the thing is I don't think anyone else cares in the end which model I have, so I didn't make a thread about getting a 64GB.

We really should sticky the following topics for all apple mobile devices:

Should I get XX GB/TB/PB or XXX GB/TB/PB
Should I return XX GB/TB/PB to get XXX GB/TB/PB
Who's thinking about returning XXX GB/TB/PB and get the XX GB/TB/PB
Which one is everyone else thinking about getting, XX/XXX GB/TB/PB

and on and on into one simple reply:

You can't add storage space to it, so buy the biggest you can afford, and if you don't think you will need the space, buy it anyway because

a) you might keep it long enough to need the extra space.

b) you will decide to upgrade to the next years upgrade and you might want to sell your old one, and the buyer is going to want more storage.

Thanks,
;)

I bought my 32GB over a week ago and I still have 22GB free. Right now I have about 120 Apps, 600 songs over 1000 pictures, and 2 television shows. I did at one time have 2 movies on it as well, but deleted them after watching them. Will do the same with the TV shows. When it comes to the video, I'll probably only keep the ones I want to watch for that trip or week. I see no reason to keep movies and tv shows on there forever taking up space. If I am going on a trip and want a few movies, I'll put them on, watch them and take them off.

Also, based on the way I have been using the iPad so far, I may clear another 2GB by deleteing most of the music. I have an iPhone 3G with the same music an iPod Classic with my complete music collection

I was originally going to get the 64GB 3G, but I have some friends that had the 16GB and 64GB, and after seeing their iPads and how they use tem I opted for the 32GB WiFi version. In addition, I looked at how my iPhone has held up over the past 2 years, it's an 8GB and has never gotten below 2.4GB free.

If you feel you need the extra space then get it.

Well, I'm one of those people who don't know what they want to watch when they get somewhere. So having a huge library of TV Shows, and Movies is the way for me. So I got the 64GB. Also, apps are getting bigger and bigger. I was shocked to here that XE Elements was 2GB.

Best decision I ever made. I have about 8 gigs free. But I have a lot, around 35 gigs of video on there.

I got the 64GB because I knew that I would run out of space at some point. That being said, I'm frankly surprised you chewed up 32GB in only three days... So get the 64GB. You'll be thinking about this to no end until you do.

But just to be devil's advocate, the whole point of the iPad is for it to be a complementary device, not to carry your entire life on it at any one time. Are you sure a lot of the 64GB you want to put on the device isn't just redundant stuff you should trash?

No.

Wait, yes.

On second thought, no.

Yes.

Maybe.

Not.

What was the question?

What lobe of the brain has the ipad been shrinking that renders owners incapable of making basic decisions on their own, and trusting random anonymous forum citizens to help them spend their money?

Pretty much sums up my thinking process when I bought my 64gb iPad. I've never regretted buying too much memory! Have an extended trip international trip coming, so I'm trying to plan ahead for air travel time, and store a bunch of movies on board. My wife says she wants some of 'her' movies, but has not yet shared with me which ones those are, so not much of her stuff is there yet. So far, half the memory is filled.

First, pay no attention to the churlish twits who made fun of your perfectly appropriate question. Unfortunately, technical forums, such as Mac Rumors, seem to draw those with limited social skills like flies.

My suggestion would be for you by all means to upgrade to the 64Gb model. For those who download little, if any, data, the 16Gb model is the right choice. That's what I did. I have had my iPad for two weeks and have essentially no data on it because almost all of the video I watch comes via Netflix streaming. I have no music on it, either. My daughter, though, is another matter. She has several iPods and collects music like mad. Her husband plans to give her a 64Gb iPad for her birthday in a couple of weeks because it's clear that any less storage capacity would create problems for her.

Definitely, it's only $100 and if you wait another week your 32 will be full. Once that happens you will kick your self because it only too $100 more dollars to get double the space.

Infact, since it's only $100 to go from 32-64, I think I might just buy a 64GB 3g iPad my self when it comes out!

..for a $100 more i would get the 64GB if u think thats what u need...i originally preordered a 32GB 3G and upgraded to a 64GB...didnt realize that due to the order change i would now getting it on the 7th of May instead of Friday this week...but i think another week of wait is all worth it...:)

If you are too lazy to manage the content on your 32GB then what makes you think you won't run into the same issues with your 64GB? Even the largest trash can eventually fills up if you don't dump it.

It not the point of "it's only $100 more," but rather getting to your root issue of poor media management. A bigger iPad won't solve that. Eventually you'll come back to the same problem of not having enough space.

Look I was where you are once w/ the iPod. I always bought the biggest, baddest one out there, put all 500 CDs I owned on it. Never listed to even 10% of them, but had them "just in case." Then the iPod nano came along. I was smitten despite the "disastrously low" storage. It was like going to a self-administered Storage Anonymous session. I learned to live with less and to only include what I actually watched and listened to, not what I "might" want to listen to...but probably never would.

32GB is plenty. I'm doing fine with a 16GB -- not b/c I can afford a bigger model, but because I don't need the iPad to archive media I'm not going to be using in the next week or so.

You need to think, a little, about how you are going to use the device; what you currently do without it and what you intend to do with it.

1) Music, limited Music, or No Music
2) Movies or Netfix/Streaming
3) Book, Mags, documents, pictures...etc
4) Games, Apps..etc

1) For me I have a serious portable music rig already and would need two 64GB iPads to house just my music library. I use a Gen 5 iPod and portable headphone amp. The Gen 4 and 5 iPods have a fantastic DAC (digital-to-analog converter) and the sound is superb. I'll keep a few standard classics I always listen too on my iPad in case I'm in a situation where I don't have my full portable audio rig, there's also Pandora. 10-15GB of space.

2) Given that I have a WiFi only iPad, I will be viewing movies directly off the hard drive on my commute to and form work. This will be the one area that I think will consume most of my free space and one of the two significant reasons for my purchase. 20-30GB.

3) I've been in the market for a new eBook reader for some time, the iPad is that reader for me. Books, Mags, Newspapers...I've set aside 10-20GB for this; the second significant reason for the purchase.

4) Lastly games and apps. I'm not a huge app hoarder or game player (yet...lol), but can easily see this changing somewhat as apps and their development grows. I set aside 10-15Gb for Apps/Games.

In addition, as some have already mentioned, when it's time to upgrade the extra storage should be an added selling feature.

Good Luck!

16GB is fine. I have an iPhone and iPod in car for music. Once I watch something, it comes off the iPad. It's not my computer, I only need things on it temporarily.

You know you want it just do it consumer...hell I did it along with a few thousand other members here too.
