I'm running SL 10.6.8 on a May 2k11 iMac (with the Thunderbolt drive and the i7 Intel QC.) I know I can upgrade to Lion, but I wonder if I should? Most of what I do is grading academic papers on Blackboard 9.1, word processing, etc. No programming, no intensive photo editing, no video, etc. Given that none of the new features are of interest or apply to what I'm doing, I wonder if I should upgrade--or rather wait six months to a year when future applications I need require Lion as a minimum.

Thoughts or insight welcome.

Only you can know if you should upgrade. Here is a questionnaire I made to help those who don't know what to do.

Before completing the questionnaire, ask yourself "Am I an Apple fanboy?" If the answer is yes, then don't bother completing it, Lion is most defiantly for you.

Wow, that's very good. Looks like I'll be upgrading to 10.7.0 =D

That is a wonderful algorithm Roadbloc, thank you. I think I'll wait a bit however. Snow Leopard does everything I wish it would so I'm fairly happy at present.

Seems like upgrading would be more out of curiosity of the new features... so no need to do it.

Best explanation ever...

I don't care about new features, all I want is a stable OS that lets me do the work I do and fiddle about.

If Lion makes my core2duo mac mini and iMac's more responsive - ie, a little faster, I'm in - I've recently switched to SL, all apps are compatible with Lion I hope.

So, given I've DLed the Lion GM, i take it I should take the plunge and sort out any issues that arise after that.

One question though, should I disconnect Time Machine for a while, its backing up 10.6.8 currently - my guess being, if I'm not impressed, I can revert back to SL and restore all systems with TM.

If you don't care about new features you may as well wait a bit for 10.7.2 or .3.

In the mean time, Snow Leopard is truly an excellent OS. Lion changes a bunch of things in ways that aren't necessarily good (full screen apps are useless on multi-screen setups).
