i have a mac pro early 2013, runs great on sierra. should i upgrade or leave well enough alone?

I assume you mean Late 2013? 10.12.4 is running fine for me, and as said above these minor updates usually contain security/bug fixes and performance improvements; in this case also the addition of Nightshift. I see no reason to hold off.
