Should I upgrade to OS X Yosemite

I bought a new 2014 Macbook Pro with Retina in September(My first Mac). But I haven't yet upgraded to OS X Yosemite. Am I missing anything? Should I upgrade?

I do web browsing, basic video editing with iMovie, reading some stuff etc.,

The only other Apple product I used is iPhone 4s. When I upgraded OS on it, it became a little slow. This experience is what is making me to hesitate to upgrade.

Well, views differ here, in this Forum as well as on the Internet.
I agree with you 100% that a user should be cautious.

I -personally - would not upgrade. There are too many reported problems with Yosemite. And some of the changes - in my opinion - are not for the good. Last but not least Yosemite looks terrible for me.
Just an example, the horrible flat look of the Dock and icons:

I had major problems after I upgraded. Eventually I did a clean install and that seems to run quite reliably. So far so good - no performance issues.

Unless you have an app from a no-name developer that doesn't support Yosemite, you shouldn't have any issues, especially on such a new rMBP.

2012 Retina MBP. Upgraded and had some annoying issues. Tried clean install and, even though some issues got fixed, the worst ones were still there. Add that to major UI lag and performance issues and it was the worst experience I've ever had with any Apple OS. Got back to Mavericks and everything is great.

In the other hand I have two friends that upgraded their non Retina MBPs (older than mine) and reported no issues.

Personally, I won't upgrade for some time since I don't want to risk bumping into the same issues again and I'm counting on Apple to fix most of them but I guess that will take some time. Although I love how the OS looks, I'm not missing out on anything important. If you don't feel you need to upgrade, I'd advise you not to.

Not a chance I would upgrade, it is still very buggy, wi-fi is intermittent and time machine is still borked for a number of users, I would wait until at least 10.10.3...

PS. Had to switch my one vertical monitor back to horizontal, apps just don't work well in vertical configuration with Yosemite...

Upgrades went fine for me on 2x iMacs, 1x MBP and 1x MBA, only issues I have come across are altering partitions afterwards is difficult due to the conversion to Core Storage which Disk Utility can't manage and a Filevault2 issue - stuck at 40% optimised and wouldn't go further. Upgraded to 10.10.1 with no issues.

Haven't had any lag etc, the new functions I use such as Phone and Message continuity work fine, I don't have the device combination (or great interest) in Document Handoff or Instant Hotspot ("traditional" hotspot works fine however).

...and I like the new UI.

Don't upgrade. You have a great machine that may turn into a slow machine. If you do upgrade, make absolutely sure you can easily restore to Mavericks using a backup.

You should always have a backup, whether or not you intend to change anything.

If you have a backup, upgrade and see for yourself. Millions of users have done so without problems.

If you have problems, or don't like it, reverse using your backup.

With a backup the decision to upgrade shouldn't be concerning of itself.

Go to the app store and read the reviews on Yosemite. Reads like a horror story. I'm waiting another 4-5 months before considering the update.

I've got Mac mini 2012 i5 (with exchanged HDD to SSD). Installed Yosemite from scratch (not update). Works like a charm - by the mean of speed and stability. And I like the new look much more then 10.9, especially windows, buttons and icons. If you'll wait with the update Apple will release OSX 10.11

For what it's worth, I clean installed on my MBP (2011) and Mac Mini (2010) and have had zero issues from either machine.
