Should I upgrade?

For people who use OS-X Sierra, how do you like it?

Is it stable?

Does it have any really annoying or troublesome bugs?

I am still on El Capitan and like it, but wonder if I should upgrade.

You have the hardware that should support Sierra fine.

Sierra has been stable for me with no problems so far.

I have not encountered any bugs. You could scan this forum (Sierra) to see what other problems people might have encountered and then evaluate them to see if it might impact your situation.

El Capitan is close enough to Sierra that I'm not sure it is worth the upgrade unless you are wanting some of the few new features of Sierra. If you do upgrade, then make sure you do a full backup before the upgrade in case you want to revert back to El Capitan (I recommend a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner to a external drive).

The only reason I upgraded from El Capitan to Sierra was to try/play with the new technology.

How long has Sierra been out? And if I don't upgrade, at what point should I upgrade?

Usually I try to put off updates, but for some reason it feels like maybe El Capitan is getting old enough that I should look into things. Not sure where I got that notion.

Sierra (10.12) was released September 20, 2016. Sierra will be replaced by 10.13 (name unknown) in September 2017. El Capitan was released September 30, 2015 with the release of the last version (10.11.6) July 18, 2016.

Upgrade to Sierra when you are comfortable with what you read about it or when you have found a need for it's features or support. Sierra is now at 10.12.2 and some people wait to a 10.xx.3 or 10.xx.4 before upgrading to give a new OS time to work out more of the bugs.

I would recommend either downloading and saving the Sierra installer app or actually doing the upgrade before September 2017 before 10.13 is released. Apple has a recent history of removing the old OS (in this case 10.12) from the App Store when the new OS is released (10.13 in Sep. 2017). El Capitan was removed from the App Store when Sierra was released. El Capitan will continue to receive security updates for the next few years.

I have a 2010 MBP 15" borderline of Sierra supported hardware... Maxed out SSD and RAM, but the performance is crappy compared to El Cap. Frequent fan blasting, and occasionally choppy graphics.

I believe the why u asked about my reply has been answered. Only upgrade when you definitely need a feature, or when next os is more stable compared to previous, or when u know u wont have time in the next years to upgrade id u dont do it. In terms of when to finally do it, is say at least 2-3 oses after pending conditions above

I have a mid-2015 15" rmbp and I just upgraded from el capitan. Only reason I wanted to upgrade was between my laptop and iPhone they weren't syncing properly. Which now they are and the files are complete. I haven't came across any bugs yet. "Fingers crossed". I do like the Siri feature. Especially being new to macs. Helps me find things.

How has your battery life been? Have the same model, I'm experiencing a battery drain since I clean installed to Sierra. As I type battery logger shows Ive been on the battery 2 hrs 16 mins and 40% loss, averaging 15 watt discharge with light usage I'm really at a loss :(

It hasn't been perfect or what I call ideal. But El Capitan was about the same. Maybe six hours top for me. I've been downloading a lot though and using Adobe CC. And power usage is around 12 Watts when in use. So at least from my experience. Both OS's didn't help or hurt me in the update.
