Hi,

I am currently using a 1.1.2 OTB iPhone in the UK on a simplicity tariff, so I have jailbroken it using the old school downgrade, upgrade, "jailbreakme.com" method. For the past month or so, the wifi on my phone just hasn't worked, and about a week ago, I installed an installer update, and that now just crashes straight away.
Basically, I was wondering if the ZiPhone method would fix my problem, and if so, how would I go about installing it. I know that you have to put it into recovery mode and then follow the instructions that are littered all over the internet, but do I have to restore my iPhone to it's out the box state, ie install 1.1.2 fresh.

If I shouldnt use ZiPhone, can anyone recommend another method?

Thanks a lot

x

For what it's worth, I'd give it a try if I were you. I just upgraded to 1.1.3 last night and used ZiPhone to activate, jailbreak and unlock my iPhone. It was very easy as advertised.

The only drawback is that you are still on a modified 04.02.13_G baseband, which means that the new Maps feature doesn't work. That said I think there are some fixes and/or workarounds for that problem. I'm currently looking for one myself.

I was pretty much in the same position as you with an OOTB 1.1.2 iPhone, running 1.1.2, jailbroken, and unlocked with TurboSIM.

i have the same thing right now, I'm running my iphone with 1.1.2 jailbroken and with a bladox turbo sim.

how did you upgrade to 1.1.3? via installer or itunes? and are you still using the your turbo sim?

If you have a 4.6 iPhone then you can unlock from the official 1.1.3 using Ziphone and use any sim card in the phone without the need for Turbosim.

with official you mean via itunes right? just want to make sure :)

Yes via iTunes. It's recommended that your iPhone is unmodified before running Ziphone.

I tested this on my own iPhone last night and a T-Mobile sim worked perfectly.

will it work with any sim card? and what will i do with the bladox? will i have the installer on my iphone or will it just be an ordinary iphone with 1.1.3?

i jailbroke mine yesterday with ziphone
i think its good but its gets boring after abit but sure is better than no apps
not much there that actually works with 1.1.3 i got 14 games (couple of the demo) summerboard, poof,Camera pro,Sketches,Vnotes and i brate lol

weres that video app :S
im sure i read there was one also
what happens when u buy a app n you have to restore do u have to buy it again ?:apple:

I have a 1.1.2 OTB iPhone with O2. I then updated it via iTunes to a normal 1.1.3 FW without Jailbreak and then used ZiPhone to jailbreak it. And it works perfectly fine with no errors to maps or anything! :)

Cheers for the replies, but i am still none the wiser.

If I plug my iPhone into my mac, update to 1.1.3 in iTunes, then just use this software, I will be able to use my non-iPhone O2 sim in my phone and have installer? The only issue is that if it mucks up I am screwed because I can't jailbreak etc again using the old method as I have no wifi, only EDGE.

Cheers

i'm not sure anyone except GeoHot and the others who wrote this program really know what exactly its doing and how it changes/modifies the existing firmware. until they release that info, I would stay away from using this. just to make sure that its not making any changes that would cause a future apple update to brick the phone or cause any other damage to it.

for those who are simply jailbreaking it, why not wait for a week to have the official SDK? unless apple seriously cripple the SDK, all the apps that are currently available through Installer.app and other means should be ported over using the SDK withing days. So, why bother with all the hassle?

of course, for those outside the countries where the iphone has been released this is great stuff for you.

Yesterday afternoon I had a 3.9 bootloader iPhone running a 1.1.2 on a Jailbroken, Activated, Unlocked Phone. Last night I upgraded to 1.1.3 using iTunes and then ran Ziphone (to activate and Jailbreak it). As I have a 3.9 bootloader I could not run the Unlock. I then installed and ran Anysim 1.3 on the iPhone and I now have an unlocked, Activated, jailbroken 1.1.3 iPhone (with the 04.03.13_G baseband!). All apps and phone features work!

As I got more comfortable mucking around I then restored the iphone in Itunes to 1.1.3 and did the same thing again (just out of curiosity really). It again worked perfectly. :D

If your phone has at 4.6 bootloader then its baseband is downgraded to the 1.1.2 version in the ZiPhone unlock process.

Chas0001 can you confirm please:

I purchased a 1.1.1 (3A109a) already unlocked iPhone on eBay about 4 months ago. The phone was originally purchased by the seller in Florida on 26 October, 2007 and has modem firmware which is 04.01.13_G, and the serial number is ***41Y5A***. I assume that he bought it with 1.1.1 already installed.

Will this method work for me, as I assume I have a 3.9BL? Like I said the phone is currently unlocked (and working on Orange in the UK) and is jailbroken. Ideally I'd like to be able to have 1.1.3 installed and obviously maintain the unlock and jailbroken status.

Whats your advice?

So should I just go into iTunes click update (or restore, which one??)

Then open up ZiPhone for Mac OSX and jailbreak, unlock ?

thanks

Its really hard to say to somebody that it will work fine, especially not knowing how in the past the phone was unlocked or jailbroken.

It seems that week 45 phones and later have bootloader 4.6 ( I believe they had 1.1.2 installed). They were released on/after Nov 9th. Yours is a week 41 so it should be a 3.9.

My iphone is a week 37 version. I got it on ebay and it had 1.0.2 installed. In order to upgrade to 1.1.1 I had to re-virginize the phone as the 1.0.2 unlock would cause problems with the 1.1.1 baseband. I then upgraded to 1.1.1 via itunes and used the jailbreakme.com method with anysim 1.1. I then decided to upgrade to 1.1.2 using the OKTOPREP method and anysim 1.2. All of these worked fine with no problems. I then 'Updated' to 1.1.3 as I mentioned in my post. The only reason I decided to do a restore afterwards was that I wanted to start a fresh and there was nothing on the iphone that I wanted to keep. As will any update you will loose all of your 3rd party apps. I uninstalled all mine before doing the update. N.B. Although being a MAC user I booted into windows to run ZIPhone.

The good thing about the 3.9 bootloader is that it allows you to downgrade the baseband and restore to 1.1.1 should anything go wrong. To be totally honest the 1.1.3 upgrade does not give to that much more functionality. In addition, who knows whether Apple will release another firmware update later this month to support the SDK.

If you are eager to do it and want the latest and greatest then go ahead. If your phone is working fine and you are patient then wait to see what apple does on the 25th.

GOOD LUCK!

I booted into Windows XP to update the iphone and activate/jailbreak it. This was because there were problems with Ziphone for OSX yesterday.

I updated to 1.1.3 in itunes then ran Ziphone from the 'DOS' prompt.

e.g. ziphone -a -j
