I have an ipad air 4 and when I got the mini led ipad pro 12.9 inch I was amazed by the contrast. I watch alot of videos during the daytime in well lit rooms and the darker blacks really help make it easier to see with glare. However the I feel its too big, bulky, and expensive at $1,100 after taxes.

I would be fine waiting for the next ipad but I was wondering if apple has a history of drastic price increases? I saw their new macbook pro went up by almost $500+ compared to last years. I wouldnt be surprised if they start charging $999 for the 11 inch ipad. What do you all think?

Everyone says mini led is not worth it but once you have seen the difference its hard to go back

The larger iPad went up with 100 USD
It’s likely the smaller one will too. So I would expect a bump to 899 USD.

personally I find Mini LED definitely worth it.

I love the 12.9 mini led screen. I’m confused though, why would you order it in the first place and then decide it’s too expensive after receiving it?

I expect a price jump for any device that gets that screen.

Well if you want the smaller form factor and the mLED display then yes, your only option is to wait for the next one. But be prepared to wait another full year, because unless they pull an 'A12Z' with the M1 chip somehow, the next update will only happen once the M2 launches, which from whisperings around the next MacBook Air launch sounds like it might be late next year.

Buyers remorse I guess lol. My main issue is that it doesnt do anything the ipad air does besides the display being better

What do you all think?

Problem is how long do you need to wait for apple to release a 11" ipad with miniLED
6 months, 12 months, 18 months, 24 months, 36 months , Are they even going be releasing one, etc ?
Or they may even go to OLED instead of miniLED

I guess it depends how sensitive you are to the differences between your displays. I’m a bit of a screen snob, but I have zero problem using my 11” iPP back to back with my 13 Pro, despite the latter having a technically superior display. And FWIW I recently did something similar, swapping my 12.9 for an 11. Ideally it would have the mini-LED screen, but it wasn’t worth it (to me) waiting until next year, as the current screen is still great. Loving the smaller iPad and very happy with the change ?

I'm not sure why the answer isn't obvious to you; if you want mini-led and you are fine waiting a year or two for an M2 based iPad Pro, then you should wait. The Mac's pricing is irrelevant here, Mini-led increased the price of the 13" iPad Pro by $100, expect the same with the 11" iPad Pro.

Of course, if you have an iPad Air does it really matter that your iPad Pro is larger? Don't you want a 13" screen for watching videos?

I look at it as my 12.9 ipad pro is far lighter, Slimmer & Smaller then the 15" laptop i used to take around with me years ago ?

Plus am still finding it hard to get used to the small 12.9 screen on the ipad due to am so used to using a 35" UW monitor on my desktop computer

As soon as an oled or mini led 11” comes I’m trading in my 12.9 it’s comically huge

If that were so bad you wouldn’t have bought it in the first place. Or at least returned it in the return period.

I'd wait for the next version. It's probably still a year away, but I believe it'll be worth the wait. The Pro is due for a change, as not much has changed design-wise since 2018. The performance & design are by no means lacking, but we should expect at least one exciting new change. It doesn't need a big redesign, mind you, but it never hurts to add something new (besides M1, added RAM and Center Stage), so it doesn't get stale. MiniLED will be nice, but something else should also be expected (besides M2).

I am in the same dilemma actually… i like the 12.9 mini led, especially when watching movies or any other video content, but i somehow find it too heavy and cumbersome when used together with the magic keyboard (which i find to be necessary bec not only is it great, i hardly use the 12.9 as a tablet. Admittedky i was an 11-inch ipad pro used for a couple of years and only switched to the 12.9 bec of the mini led. Got it since May and now that the ipad mini 6 is out, i’m contemplating of getting it to complement my 12.9… but i figured why not go Back to the 11-inch version so i dont have to get a mini, saving me some money, and also just selling the 12.9 and getting the 11-inch m1. Will surely miss the mini led though on the 12.9 and i’m really torn. I‘ve decided that the 11-inch version is the optimum size for my use case as a tablet and semi laptop usage from time to time. If only apple also released a mini led version of this size it would have been a no-brainer.

At this point it’s only rumour and presumption that miniLED is coming to the 11”, but you have to remember, when Apple was asked why the 11” didn’t come with miniLED, their reply was that they know that users of the 11” model like the portability of the device, therefore as the miniLED added weight and thickness to the device they decided to leave it out of that particular model.

Now, obviously they’re not going to admit supply issues or anything like that, but for all we know Apple may be sticking with their word that they are not going to add it to the 11” model.

After all they didn’t leave it out of the 14” MBP, even though supplies are still struggling, probably because they know people arn't buying the MBP for portability,

In my opinion, I would just buy now and enjoy 12 months of use and then upgrade at the end of 2022 (the likely time frame of the next refresh).

I would expect if miniLED was added it would be $899, I so expect though that the next iPad Pro will be more landscape focused, and we will likely see a new Magic Keyboard.

Out of interest, can you provide a link to said Apple statement from your first paragraph please? Thanks much!

This is an interview with people from Apple at 8 minutes Brian Tong asks them if there was any technical reasons why the miniLED wasn’t included in the 11”.

Obviously this response doesn’t mean it will never come but if that’s apple’s true thinking then it’s possible it may never come to the 11” but who knows.

Interesting that you say new keyboard, which I wouldn’t be opposed to function keys. I grabbed the 12.9 and 11 yesterday with keyboards. Determined the 11 was for me, but that no mini led was a deal breaker. I was like could just trade in In 7 months. Then I thought I could lose 200-300 on the tablet and could have to buy a new magic keyboard entirely. Sadly will be returning both tomorrow and anxiously await the new 11.

Since that post, obviously more rumours have come out and sadly the landscape orientation rumour doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, so my guess at this stage is just wireless charging, M2 and miniLED added to 11” with a slightly tweaked 11” keyboard for the extra thickness.

Yeah I’m investing in the next gen M2 MacBook Pro. Because sadly there is NO difference in features Vs. A 4 year old A12X iPad Pro 11” with 4GB of RAM. And a new M1 iPad Pro with 8GB of RAM and a Thunderbolt Port. That’s hands down Pathetic and shameful.
No One should buy a new iPad Pro.
I am investing the $1,000 that would be the new cost of an iPad Pro. Into a new M2 14” MacBook Pro as long as it has.

Dual Channel LPDDR5 16GB.

I'm sure mini led is coming to 11 inch. the 12.9 is great with a keyboard or a device you use for media. for holding it's not as practical. I love my 12.9 and actually plan to use it side by side with my 14 inch MacBook Pro as I think it's a great combo for side car and for universal control

Well the iPad Pro 11” and 12.9“ are identical apart from the screen, yet the 12.9” model got a price increase, so I think that should tell you to expect a price increase on the 11” model if it gets a mini LED screen. I’ll leave it to others to tell you if it’s worth waiting for the new screen. I got an 11” Pro the other week and love it. It’s certainly not wanting for any more performance!
I didn’t wait as I got money for my birthday for it and I really needed a new iPad.
