Long Island
Just called my Apple Store. The lines are gone. There are iPads there waiting for a home (albeit, a temporary one). Why a temporary home?

I'm waiting for the 3G but with all the excitement & happiness exuding from this forum, I'm thinking about getting a 16 GB WiFi to use for 14 days, then returning it. Of course I'd have to pay the $50 restocking fee; $25/week rental fee.

Should I?

i would say wait till 3G comes out.
im waiting for the 3G comes out cause it will be great use for me to go on a trip with it and leave my iPhone 3G at home when im on vacation this summer.

It depends on where you live. In NY there is more and more wifi being setup everywhere.

It's such a beautiful unit and works so well and with such ease it's a dream to use and type on and it's blazing fast!

I live on Long Island too. Thing is that I definitely want the 3G. I don't have an iPhone or any other smartphone. I love the idea of being able to be "connected" everywhere.

Is it "dicky" of me to simply buy one today to just return it in 14 days?

It's kinda dick to do that but you may find the wifi to be ok if your not on the road with it.
Besides optonline, time Warner just popped up the other day as an accessible wifi connection as well. I have found that even on the spotty north shore it works really well.

I'll agree with it being a bit dicky, but pathetic? Can't you cut me a little slack?

I'm just excited about the iPad. They're there, down the road, in beautiful white boxes.

$25/week "rental fee"... I don't buy a $4.00 coffee everyday or spend $7.00 for a pack of cigarettes everyday.

Alright... I'll wait.
