My father has an iMac (Late 2014 27 inch Retina 5K) where he was experiencing screen flickering. He brought it in to his local Apple Store (in Florida), where they initially said it was the power supply, which they waived the $67 part cost to replace. But after replacing, they said the issue was "the voltage being sent to the Logic Board" still showed an error, the flickering hadn't been corrected, and the logic board needed to be replaced.

Three weeks out of AppleCare warranty -- and $500!

Apple is usually fairly generous with these sort of out-of-warranty issues. But not with this logic board.

Anyone ever seen this kind of problem? Any advice?

Thanks,

Stephen

I would reach out to the store manager, and respectfully explain the situation to them. If true, tell them that your father is a loyal customer, as are others in his family. Then state your issue: this seems unfair to have a very expensive part fail just outside of warranty. Then ask if there is anything that can be done. If you get no satisfaction from that, as if there is someone else you can speak to about this.
