G'day,

I have a base model MacPro5,1 (2.8ghz quad, base GPU, 8GB RAM).

It runs High Sierra and below quite well... but when I tried Mojave, it was treacle. Unusable.

It was a clean install on an otherwise blank SSD installed in one of the normal HDD bays. So, no legacy anything to be slowing it down, and whilst not installed via PCIe, it was at least on SSD.

Is Mojave meant to be that bad on a 5,1, or is there something I could / should have tried to get it working better?

For now I've gone back to High Sierra and its just on a 7200rpm and still running better that Mojave.

Thanks

So, you don't have a METAL supported GPU and you are thinking that Mojave is unusable… ;)

GPU upgrade to a METAL supported one is a requirement for the Mojave upgrade.

Ah ok - so it was something obvious if I did my research... :)

New GPU.

Kewl. Not happening cos it's now my son's "problem" and he's saving for a 2nd hand game pc. At least I know now that there was a reason it was so crap.

Thanks.
