Should my system files take up this much space?

So OSX sierra now shows you a more detailed storage infographic and I realized that I have a lot of storage being taken up by system files... here is a photo:

so is it weird to have 47 gb of system files or am I just underestimating the size of the OS. Also if it isn't normal could you guys tell me how to clear some of the unnecessary files?

Thanks I used that thread and i cleared like 20 gb

My 'system' is sitting at 102GB as it happens so might have a go myself
