wow i bought a original 40 gig recently and i already want to frisbee this thing out my window.. F


First of all it's big as hell.. and it runs hot

2nd I could nt get the apple tv to upgrade the software it would stay at version 1. I had to do a restore and then i was able to do a software upgrade.

3rd the synching takes forever and it still doesn't always work..

4th even with the update the remote app doesn't work with the atv1.

I bought this thing so i can have access to purchased content without needing to have a computer on.. The menus on this thing are confusing.. There should be no debate the atv2 is hands down better....

Yep, it runs hot. That's a well known issue(?) since launch. Synching takes a while - as it does with my iPhones and iPad. I set synch to manual and don't need to synch that often. For a fresh sync, I let it do it's thing overnight. Big? It's 1/2 the size of my Mini & WAY smaller than my DVR's. Compared to ATV2? Well.....DUH - no HD! I have had an ATV1 since launch and now have two. Never had the other issues you describe.

Oh, and I have an ATV2 also. It's great too. Both have different advantages that one would normally be aware of before purchasing. At less than the price of an Airport Express (~$50 on eBay) the ATV1 is a a bargain. If I had another room that I wanted to pipe music or video to, I would make you an offer to take yours off your hands.

i played with it some more this morning.. Got a few of my music playlists to work and my fave tv shows to sync now . Im liking it better now .. im still a little pissed that the remote app on my iphone 4 doesn't work with it. It woulda made it sweet..

very odd that the remote app doesnt work mine does but mine is hacked with atv flash, might make the differece as you need to install remote app onto the thing for it to work!

Not sure why the Apple Remote doesn't work for you. That would be frustrating. Mine works on my iPhone 4 for both of my ATV1's - one stock with latest software & one hacked & running XBMC. What doesn't work exactly?

I have the Remote app paired with both first and second gen TVs (both stock with no hacks) with no issues at all. What specifically is the problem? Is it not finding the unit on your network or does it pair but just not function?
