Hi,
Got a new MacBook Pro 14”. When I tap (not push) on the sides / outer edges of the trackpad it don’t “click with the mouse” but when I drow my finger around it my mouse are moving so the “sensors” are working.

I can push down and then it click after the edges but it’s not that I’m meaning I meaning “tap” with the finger.

Anyway I’m wondering if it’s the same for the rest of you?

I have a 16" M1 and the trackpad does not seem to make a tap feeling but when I push my finger on the trackpad I get a clicking feeling. I don't know what it is supposed to do but my results seem very similar to you?

The tap is when you tap the finger if I do that excatly after the edges /sides I can’t for example open a app or folder etc.

But I can push it down and then it works.
The tap works everywhere else.

It’s the same for you?

I don't register any tap on any part of the trackpad. However when I do the test my trackpad is registering the tap and in finder it opens an app?

Okay I just read your reply. Something is wrong for you as my trackpad does register the tasks I just don't feel any feedback at all.

Feedback? I never get any feedback in tap and I have never felt any feedback either on any of my MacBooks.

Sorry then my previous comments were probably not helpful. I have not had too many Macs before this one so I am not sure how the default action of the trackpad is.

It seems since mine is recording the taps correctly that it is working and yours is not. It might be the bug Wando64 listed?

I hope I didn't confuse you with my previous responses. Good Luck!! I hope you get the issue sorted out!

It's just seem that we are talking about different things. It's when I do just "tap" on the edge och the trackpad.
And it's around the hole trackpad.

Here is a image that I took from the internet, the red lines are "longer away" it's closer to the edge that I just tap with my finger.

I did write on a Swedish native forum and other people are replaying that they have the same "issue" so my guess is that it's not an issue then :)
I might have explained it poorly as English is not my native speaking launge

So for someone else that are reading this. it's by design :)

I'D go to system preferences: trackpad and make adjustments

tap tp click, click pressure, force click (I Like off), etc.

also go to accessibility, pointer control, double click speed, and trackpad options, three finger drag.

I always set up a new computer trackpad and it works fine for me. There was 1 build of Monterey where the trackpad was all messed up, but that was fixed a long while ago (at least on beta)

I got replays on a other forum where I could explain in Swedish and they can reproduce the this. At least three people so my guess is that it's not an issue.

I have my "old" 14" with only 16GB of Ram still here at home so I'll boot it up tomorrow and try it out there also but my guess is that I can reproduce the "issue".

Edit:
I'm running 12.2.1

Hey @5425642! I get what you mean. The issue you have is in fact not an issue at all. My macs show that behaviour as well and it was that way even back when macs didn’t have multitouch track pads. It’s actually a feature to prevent clicks or mouse movement on accident while typing. I don’t know if you’re able to adjust that behaviour or even switch it off. You’ll get used to it :)

I've had 2 MacBooks and in both the edges of the trackpad behaved just like yours. I've also reproduced this on many MacBooks, si it seems to be a feature to prevent clicks on accident.

It's basically a feature to prevent accidental clicks, similar to what iOS/iPadOS devices are doing with touch around the edges.

Was working since the beginning with a M1 MBA, no issues.
Now since a few days I've a 14.1" and I totally have this anoying issue.
The edge of the trackpad doesn't always react to touch to click.
