Yes, you are correct. That is only a power LED on a Mac Studio. There is nothing on the Mac Studio that indicates sleep.

This was definitely very annoying for me. I have a glitchy monitor and the lack of a sleep indicator makes it hard to troubleshoot sometimes when I need to hard power it.

Hopefully they will adjust this in a future update.

I noticed it too and actually my expectation was that the power LED will blink or get dimmer.
Same here, it feels a bit naff and un-Apple like to just stay on full brightness when the Mac is sleeping.

I,
More than a led problem, there is a bug on standby. The machine does not turn off.

Interesting. I have just woken mine out of 'sleep' to find that it had encountered a problem during the night and rebooted itself back to the logon screen. Not a great start but didn't have this with my previous 2019 iMac.

The Mac Studio does go to sleep, but the LED doesn't reflect this state. I don't see a bug here, at least not with my unit.
Also remember that Power Nap is always on on Apple Silicon computers, so that draws more power than typical sleep states.

The "non-blinking power light" seems to have been in effect for a while now.
The 2018 Mini behaves the same way -- power light steady whether awake or sleeping.

My advice for Studio owners is the same as for Mini owners.
That is...
Don't put the Studio "to sleep".
Just let it sit there, "awake, but idling".
DO put the display(s) to sleep.

  • Status indicator light: The status indicator light on the front of Mac Studio shows a steady white light when your Mac Studio is awake or in sleep; when there’s no light your Mac Studio is turned off.

Which, while not a big deal, is a shame and honestly a little surprising. Those little touches were mastered by Apple so long ago that I guess I took them for granted. It's a unfortunate to see them let something so subtle but impactful fall off the map.

Been designed this way since 2018, not a bug but a feature. Probably part of the always on feature of the processor.

MacOS 12.3.1 seems to like to wake up the Studio regularly even when you have the check my emails feature switched off.
