Well actually Carbon Fiber, or like the back of the white iphone!!

I think their was a mention of apple testing a carbon fiber bottoms in order to lighten the weight by 25% ?

What do you think? I think it would be really cool! A true supper light,
iphone like device. Truly portable.

I would want one just in white!

Although I love the aluminum, its still heavy!

I don't won't to feel my apple Laptop in my backpack, at all! :)

I would love to see some mockups !

What's carbon fiber actually like? Does it scratch easily, crack, react to heat? etc.

is a state of mind.
I think they will make it out of Pop Tarts. Cherry.

CF is very unlikely. Poor heat dissipation. Not as durable/scratch resistant. No eco cred whatsoever.

I hope they won't make the next MBA with CF or plastic. Aluminum is now Apple's white and CF doesn't dissipate heat as well as aluminum does. Nor is it eco-friendly.

I predict cardboard. Completely recyclable. Probably made from recycled boxes turned in for cash. JK...

Seriously though, I wonder if Adamo by Dell is planning on being Carbon Fiber? It is super thin and lightweight. The photos of the black version DEFINITELY look like carbon fiber. There is also a white version that appears to have one aluminum or steel strip on it, but I guess it could be carbon fiber also. I am a Mac guy through and through, but I will be buying an Adamo the day it is released to do my Windows work.

In my MBA's defense, I wouldn't want to "WASTE" any of its 128 GB of SSD with Windows in any form. I truly am buying an Adamo because it is made to be super lightweight and yet powerful as a luxury, innovative, and amazingly designed Dell to compete with the MacBook Air. And as SAD as it may be, I do need Windows occasionally for work.

I think the most we could imagine from Apple is an aluminum base and a carbon fiber lid. Remember seeing the MB and MBP fakes before the unibody models were released. A few companies said they saw BLACK top MBs and MBPs with an aluminum base and keyboard. NOW, I don't want to see that on my MBA, but we all have to admit, Apple is really liking the Black and Aluminum look. The other thing is the carbon fiber housing for the top or display backing would probably result in better wireless reception for our MBAs (I would assume anyways). The bottom being aluminum would still take care of heat.

I cannot see Apple getting completely away from aluminum??? I guess lighter is better, but also aluminum definitely helps with heat. Have you picked up a white MB vs an aluminum MB? The white is so hot by the vents like a raging inferno inside, while the aluminum feels warm to the touch... I know there are some differences, but I think the heat is transferred away from components better with aluminum. But, I am no engineer.

I could deal with an all carbon fiber MBA, if it could deal with the heat and was SIGNIFICANTLY lighter. Like if it weighed in at 2 lbs then ok, but I don't think it would make that much difference. Supposedly if they changed the bottom only (rumored at one time) would reduce like .2 lbs from it. That doesn't seem worth it to me. I will not give up aluminum for a 1/2 a pound. Oh, who the hell am I joking, if it is stamped with MacBook Air and has OS X on it, I am buying it based on my rev B's performance and capabilities alone.

The whole environmentally friendly position sure favors aluminum. So do all of us buyers who pay $2500 for a super portable Mac. Yes, portable and weight lowering is great but overall it's the form factor and beautiful aluminum that really make the MBA feel like an extra special and worthy Mac.

I would suspect the white plastic MB is going away by the end of the year. I would expect an aluminum MBA revision C this year. Until something comes out that is significantly better in heat dissipation, durability, beauty, and weight, I think the aluminum is by far the best choice vs plastic or carbon fiber.

I vote no for white plastic.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
No polycarbonate
No glassy screen
No buttonless trackpad

The Air is Apple's last great looking laptop. Apple really jumped the shark with the unibody MB/MBP. The Air is the only laptop currently offered that doesn't look like a slimmed-down 2003 HP. (Classic white MB notwithstanding);)

A slimmer bezel with smaller footprint would be nice...

Newly harden polycarbonate with those special "scratch healing" paint. Internal aluminum superstructure would be good. CF is overkill and not green.

Sarcasmville.
Clearly, the next generation of everything is made from carbon nanotube-based materials. If that were to happen, I wouldn't worry about your Macbook when you drop it to the floor, i'd worry about the floor!

Shinny clam-shell MacBook Air anyone?
Ok it's only Color Ware mockups, but it's the combination of a Black Lid & Aluminum base that is my favorite!
They could clam the entire out side in plastic like the iphone and internally, the unibody base & screen bezel could stay for durability!

Aluminum is where it is at. Titanium would be heavily and cost more. CF would also cost more. Plastic doesn't have the same quality feel to it, and it doesn't look as good. Aluminum painted black might be nice.

I doubt they'll switch after making such a big hubub about "Unibody Aluminum" etc. if they wanted to switch materials they probably would have thought of it before switching to aluminum.
