In years past if we had 2 or 3 hard drives for video editing it improved workflow and allowed smoother scrubbing, etc. on some systems.

With the M1 Max Mac Studio, for 4K and 8K video editing, does the system perform better with a 2TB internal SSD and no externals... OR... would it benefit more if it had 1TB internal, 2 TB NVME external, and a third 1TB NVME external. The externals could be used for cache, the other to hold the library or source videos.

Or does it not matter at all given the speed of the M1 Max internal SSDs.

Any insights?

SSDs are way faster than hard drives in read/write speeds. I'm no video-editing expert, but I'm pretty sure setting them up for speed like that is an outdated practice these days.
