I bought a base MBP 14 in late December and received it in early January. I have been using it for about 3 weeks and today noticed that it is no longer charging to full capacity by default. I have used it plugged in 99.9% of the time. The Magsafe connector is now always remaining orange and the charging is on hold. Should I charge it to full capacity on occasion, or should I only do this when I am going to use it with battery power? Thanks for any help.

this is the OS protecting the battery from being constantly at 100% (which over time would not be good for battery health).

use it unplugged from time to time and let it discharge to 20-30%, then charge.

I did install AlDente to keep my battery at 50% when plugged in. When I plan to go out and about I give it a full charge.

Thanks a lot for your help. I will give AlDente a try. Should I keep it at 80%, or should I lower it? Thanks again.

Most people think keeping battery between 40-80% is the sweet spot, and 80% being the upper limit is a good rule of thumb.

Also in the meantime, even if you use your computer 99% of the time when plugged in, I would unplug your computer when you're not using it. If you can also use your computer on battery some of the time, even better, but doing the former is separate and still helpful for battery longevity.

Like Chris, I use Aldente but keep mine at 75%. Once a month I let Aldente charge and discharge the battery at the touch of a button.
I just installed Aldente on my new MBP. But my battery is at 100% I have it set to 80% and sailing mode is on. I thought it would let the battery drain until 80 percent. I did disable battery optimization in system prefs. Am I missing a toggle somewhere?
