It's finally happened! A native port for Shovel Knight has appeared.

Steam Link:

It'll be appearing on GOG, and Humble Store shortly as well.

Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic. If you love games with perfect platforming, beautiful art, infectious music, crazy bosses, humor and levity, and real heart… Shovel Knight is for you!

It's a fantastic platformer, with delightful music that just makes you want to keep playing.
It's strongly recommended you use a controller though, and the wired 360 one does a fantastic job.

YouTube: video

Does it support either the Xbox 360 or the PS3 DualShock controller natively?

I know that many Feral and Aspyr games support one controller or the other, out of the box, no 3rd party drivers needed.

Sadly no, I use the Tattiebogle drivers for my wired 360 pad in the game.
Not many dev that port to Mac, care about those little details like Feral does.

Looking at their large list of supported controllers, I think it' safe to say that it uses SDL2's GameController API. For the most part, it means that the controllers "just work." Although they will be mapped in a similar way as an Xbox 360 controller.
