So this has been bugging me for about a month now so I figured its time for a post about it. On my sisters iMac, for some reason the icon previews for pictures don't show up, they are just white empty file icons.

Now let me start from the beginning, when I installed Tiger onto the iMac G5 all pictures were associated with Color Sync for some reason (This didn't happen when I upgraded my G4 iMac though). So I figured the problem with the icons was because the pictures were opening with Color Sync, so I changed all the pictures (jpeg, jpg, tiff, etc...) to open with Preview. Still a no go. The odd thing is, I copied over a bunch of wallpapers from my G4 and like 6 out of 100 show a thumbnail preview, and even when I turn off 'Show icon preview' from View Options those 6 icons still stay on.

So I don't know what to do here, I searched other threads, even deleted launchservices plist files and rebooted as suggested in another thread, and still nothing. This is really starting to bug me. I included an attachment picture of the general problem below. This is bugging me to no end. If it was mine I'd probably just reinstall Tiger to see if it fixed the problem, but my sister is reluctant to let me do that. ;) Help.

Ok odd, my screenshot didn't attach on the original post for some reason, so here we go.

So we are assuming that the icon previews work for the same folder of images on your other computer?

Yes on my iMac G4, icon previews work for absolutely all pictures (including the the folder ones I copied over). On the iMac G5 prior to copying over my wallpapers, not one picture file showed an icon preview. Though after copying said pictures over (Via LAN) a very small percentage of the copied pictures showed having the icon previews on the G5.

I figured.. well idk why i am saying this but run a fix on permissions mb.. thing is it looks like not even the defaulted preview file icons are working for image files (like your picture 1 on the desktop). IDK. Stumping me.

Oh just to note, I downloaded the PumpkinArrangement.jpg file (shown in my screenshot as having an icon preview) from the original site, and oddly enough the downloaded image did not have an icon preview. So only thing I could think of is when I directly copied the wallpapers from my other computer, it brought along some preference setting in the folder that remembered some of the icon previews maybe? I don't know I'm not sure what in the world could be making this happen, this is getting me mad.

Ah forgot to mention that, have repaired permissions a few times already, no luck with that route. Yeah its weird its just a plain icon.

OK well i did do another search cause I don't like being stumped: Download this and try this solution. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9503

apparently that worked for this guy MacWorld Forum Post.

Alright, downloading it now (booo dialup). This hopefully should work as that guy in your link had like the exact same problem as me (except his started after an update, though I don't remember if this started before or after updating to 10.4.2 as I updated to it an hour after installing Tiger). So here goes nothing. Will post back in a few. (crosses fingers) :)

Gah alright, well the Tiger Cache Cleaner didn't do the job. At this point I can't even think of anything I could even try at this point.
