The size is usually listed there by the app--are you not seeing that?

That shows the size of the app not the size of the update
Well, the updates are often delta updates, which can be different depending on your device and your installation, and I believe that doesn't get determined until the actual moment of you getting the update.

That said, it will be under the size of the full app installer, so basically the number you see there is the most that it could be, with it being likely less than that. Given that, while it certainly would be nice to see the size of the update itself, if you basically know the highest potential size of it that is listed you have an idea of how much data at the most would be used up. It's definitely a potential improvement that could be made, but nothing really that seems "serious" or to be "agree" about.

Yeah, I still can't believe after all these years it doesn't show the size of the delta and not the full app. Its quite shocking. The Mac App Store does this without a problem.

We are talking about iOS not Mac App Store. iOS does not show delta update size like Mac App Store does.

It seems pretty accurate to me. When an app says it's a 1GB update, normally it takes a significant amount of time compared to everything else. iOS apps generally update a lot more than just one file. iOS practically reinstalls the app every time. It's weird how it works, but at least it works.

The app size listed in the update pane is the full installer and not the delta. Real Racing updates every 6 weeks and the app in the update always says 800-900MB, in reality the update is no more than 100MB. I'm able to see this via router logs.

Weird. Fallout shelter says about 1GB each time and it usually takes as long as a 1GB download takes. Guess I'll do some looking and see what is really going on.

Just curious why do you care? Data limits concern?

It would be nice to know. For example, when you download an update with an App size of 100MB or more you get the pop up saying you need WiFi. But if the update is less than 100MB it will continue anyway. It's just annoying. It should be smart enough to show the delta size.

Well sometimes before I leave the house or being an update on a slow connection it's nice to see how long it'll take to download or keep my internet slow

What is a delta update
A delta update is swapping parts of the whole app out

Similar to a car, you wouldn't need a brand new car if your tires went bad or needed changing

I hope I answered your question SSAJ!
