Ear mutants walk among us.
Reading the complaints here on MacRumors forums, it becomes obvious that there are is a certain percentage of people for whom AirPods just don't fit. š
Here is the original launch video for AirPods' progenitor EarPods:
Apple recognized that their in-ear headphones would not be able to fit everyone. They were striving for perhaps the middle 80% of normal human ears - - leaving 10% on either extreme of ear mutants who wouldn't be able to wear them. š§āāļø
For the majority of us for whom AirPods fit perfectly, they offer supreme convenience. However, I ask now for you to take a moment to consider the tragic existence of the ear mutants who's birth abnormality prevents them from enjoying these incredible devices. š¢

This was our starting point for developing a form to fit a broad range of ears."
