Forgive me if this has been covered, I have searched and there's nothing helpful come up.

I'm converting my songs to 128k/AAC, in order to fit a few more on my 512MB shuffle. In the past, this has worked fine -- but now it seems to be behaving strangely.

I've selected the songs from a playlist, checked 'convert' in preferences and it's running. Only, it's running terribly slowly.

I know it's not disk access limiting the speed -- menumeters shows very little activity. iTunes is only using 7% of my CPU time - now, conversion takes a lotta cycles. Why the hell isn't iTunes gobbling them up like it should?

At this rate, I won't have any 'tunes for my upcoming 8 hour nightshift :(

Solved it myself, but this needs publicising. I'll also be submitting a bug report to Apple.

My PB iTunes was streaming to my PC, and playing there. When I killed the connection, the conversion suddenly jumped to taking 90% CPU time -- and is happening at a fair pace (disk limited, believe it or not).

Anyway, it's f***ing unacceptable. Anyone noticed this happening with Airport Express -- or is it just limited to computer -> computer streaming?
