I've been having a problem for the past couple of moths that is something of a hindrance. I finally decided to post about it now.

Basiclly, when I tell my mac to shutdown, everything like files on my desktop and applications go away, but my dock remains in place. I suspect that the finder is not closing. When I try to force quit the finder using CMD-OPTION-ESC, nothing happens. I've only had this issue with El Capitan. I can't seem to find anyone else with exactly the same issue and have searched before.

Does anyone have any idea (hopefully something common or simple) as to why this is happening, or how I can fix this?

Info: MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011, Aftermarket SSD, Upgraded since Snow Leopard (Never clean installed. probably should at some point. Fact that it's still fine is a testament to Apple. Imagine a PC being anyway tolerable after 6 consecutive versions of Windows?)

I just updated from 10.11.5 to 10.11.6 yesterday and am having the same problem. Mid-2010 Mini. 11.5 was fine. Any solutions? Not finding much luck on the web. I'll keep searching here as well...

Same with me I'm afraid. I can find virtually nothing on this issue either here or on the Apple Support forum.

Considering doing a clean wipe at some point. Just that 5 years of heavy use makes moving everything important a sizeable task.

My Mac problem has been solved. But now my Pro Tools 12.6 update hangs upon startup. I don't think the issues are related, but we shall see. Digging through the Avid archives now.

Hmm I use Logic Pro X as my main DAW although I have Pro Tools 9 installed. But my main concern over AVID drivers related to my C400 interface. I can't update my Mac OS version until they release the appropriate driver unless I want to be a paperweight for 6 months.

If you can open Terminal, type the following:

Code:
sudo shutdown -h now

Enter your password and it should shutdown. Only workaround I've found. I've been considering removing my AVID driver to test but I use them for my Digi002r.

I use an 002R as well! Updated to the latest driver for that after deleting the old one. Mac runs fine now. Pro Tools, not so much...

After over an hour on the phone with Sweetwater tech support (who was great), I've now uninstalled everything and am doing a clean install. I sure hope this works.

Was running PT12.5.2 on OSX 10.11.5 just fine. Though it wasn't technically supported. Updating to OSX 10.11.6 and PT 12.6 was supposed to make everything roses again. But PT would always hang upon startup. Really hoping a clean install does the trick. The support guys only other suggestion was to replace my mid-2010 Mini with 2.4GHz Core 2 and 8 GB of RAM with something with at least an i5 or higher. Even though my machine is supported.

This sucks.

The clean install did the trick. PT only hangs every so often now. And the MINI has run fine since deleting the driver. Though it's getting really slow now. It drives me crazy that they say certain OS's are supported, then it bogs down your machine. If it's gonna do that, don't say it's supported!
