Sometimes when i close the lid on my macbook it will randomly shutdown. last night when i woke it up it was half way through start up and resumed when i opened the lid. However this is completely random and i can't predict when it will happen. Also i have the dreaded CPU whine and when i do shutdown the computer i have the airport problem of taking forever to connect. Has anyone had these problems? What did they do at the apple store for you?

thx

p.s. i have an appointment at the apple store tonight, i just thought i'd see if anyone else has had this problem

Have you got the latest firmware? Check by running Software Update from the Apple menu. What changes have you made to your system recently in terms of software and hardware? :)

I saw your post and thought, gee, that hasn't happened to me for a while. Then today after taking it out of the bag it did it again. This is maybe the 4-5th time since November 22, but the first in a month. I've noticed that it usually happens when the computer is/has been on its side, and I suppose it could have been bumped.

What did the apple store tell you?

Well the guy at the apple store kept opening and closing it to see if it would do it. However it didn't which i was kinda mad about. But he did see the airport problem and he told me apple was "looking into it" and that it was a known issue. And as for the cpu whine he said that could be annoying and that if it gets worse to bring it back in. He also said he didnt want to just start changing out random parts if it didn't need to be changed.

And when you say it was on its side was that when it was asleep? And what week number is yours, because i got mine the day after thanksgiving (same week as yours).

Yes- I keep it in the bag, hinge side down. As far as I can tell, the restart has only happened when it's sleeping, nearly vertical with the hinge down.

At least until this morning, when it was open and running it its usual space, and I heard the restart donnggggg from the kitchen. I hadn't touched it it maybe 10 minutes. That's the first time it's had an unprompted restart. I hope my problem isn't escalating!

Oh, and mine's a week 44. I ordered it on Halloween, but didn't get to use it until right before Thanksgiving.
