OK really ??? My mac keeps shutting down... it just shuts off. Sometimes even if its just on for a few minutes.... kinda getting on my nerves.

This is what I'm running... just so you know.

Model Name: iMac ...Snow 10.6.6
Model Identifier: iMac8,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 2 GB

When I first got it, it crapped out TWICE ... took it to apple store they worked there magic and I was up and running again. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not ? hmmmm...

Any thoughts ? Thanks. :apple:

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

Are you getting kernel panics or crash reports?

Usually when a computer shuts off like that is because of heat and it does so to protect itself.

Nope.... Kinda new to this whole MAC thing... I'm learning though. I whole heartedly know that I will never own a PC again though... lol !!!

Yeah because carrying your machine twice to the shop and OSX randomly shutting your pc off is really convenient. Exactly why I switched to mac.

I hope you still have the System disk that came with that iMac. I say this because written small on one of the disk is the words "Hardware Tests". Then you could boot to that disk and run the hardware tests to see if it catches anything.

Thank You....

I do... I will... and we shall see what happens. It did it again today but i didn't catch it right away. I only had safari running

I guess Ill be looking to get a new Mac .... once the new ones come out. :)

Thanks to all who offered up at least a credible thought.

Similar problem

I have a 2008 20" iMac. Leopard snow. It can be on for 3 days and shut off if I move the mac to show the screen to someone, or it can be on for 5 minutes and not even touching it, like today and it shuts off. Too make it worse, when it does, I have to use Disk Warrior to rebuild the disk. Every time. it always says my keys are out of order.

If I shut it off myself, it always starts, when it crashes like that it never restarts. Any suggestions?
