I already posted this in Mac Peripherals, but didn't get any help... I'm wondering if anyone who checks this forum will be more helpful.

So... sorry for posting in the wrong forum.

I have a 500GB HFS+ formatted MyBook external drive connected to my AEBS.

When it's working, it works fine... everything is groovy. But I will get periodic drop outs... usually when using something on the external (ie, watching a video that is on it), but sometimes when I'm not using it at all, I'll come back and I'll get the same message.

Something about connection being lost, and forcing me to "Disconnect"

When I "Disconnect" however, it obviously is not ejecting the drive properly.
If I go into Finder, the drive is no longer there, BUT, if I go into Volumes through the terminal, it's there.... "My Book" and then it's like every time I've tried to connect since being disconnected I get a "My Book-1", "My Book-2", etc.

I've tried doing rm -r to get rid of the original one before attempting to connect again, but that still doesn't work... just another empty "My Book" volume shows up in the terminal.

The only way I can get it back is to plug in the drive directly to my machine, eject it properly, and then plug it back into the AEBS.

This is ridiculously annoying. The AEBS was expensive and it should work... but it just doesn't.

Anyone else having issues like this? Any advice?

BTW... my AEBS is version 7.2. I had 7.2.1, but someone on here advised me to go back to 7.2... this worked for a little while, but now I'm back to this problem again.

Help me out!

Same problems. (Im)patiently waiting for a new firmware release...

My patience is running thin. This was an almost 2 grand investment for me... it should work the way it was advertised.

I'm sure it will be fixed, but it's really annoying me.

I've read a few posts on the Apple forums about increasing the DHCP lease time to 99 days or something. If you are using DHCP that is. There were a few posts that indicated apple tech was aware of a problem and that a fix is forthcoming. But that could be wishful thinking. You might call Apple and see how far you can get

Yeah... good idea. I know no one cares, but I need to vent... I've had a crapload of things in my life just not working out all at once... and now today I find out my hotmail account was hijacked. I use that account for setting up most of my usernames so that I can get most of my junk mail sent to 1 email account and do bulk deletes.

Now I can't log on... and in googling this issue, I find that this is common and also that many times your inbox gets forwarded to your contacts. This could be a fun month. :(

I hear you. The second I work through a solution I'll PM you to ensure you hear about it as well, but I really think this is just a horrid firmware release that needs to be completely reworked.

And remember, luck comes in waves; you've got a windfall of good luck coming

Maybe just in time for Christmas! lol Yeah... I'm also trying to study for the GRE's which I'm taking in early November... things just need to start WORKING without me having to spend days forcing them to!

But thanks for your words of optimism :)
