Is it just me or is the :apple:TV forum been full of a lot of "I wish they would update it" or "I would never buy one" or "Its a stupid product and a waste of money" comments lately?? And it seems that most of the people criticizing it don't even own one yet alone have ever used one!

Its one thing if you own an :apple:TV and you are upset about it. However, for the sake of those of us who own one, please keep your comments to yourself. I hate having to sort through these comments in order to get what I'm really looking for in this forum.

I think the :apple:TV is a wonderful device and it serves its purpose well. If Apple discontinued it tomorrow and said they would never be updating it again, I could care less since it already has more than enough great features as it is. If they add iTunes Store support, great, whatever, I don't have to get up off my couch to go to my desk to buy a song or TV show.

So to end my little rant, if you don't own one, don't plan on owning one and don't have anything worthwhile to add to the forum, don't waste your time (or mine) with another stupid post about how you think Apple screwed up or how it should have a 5000 gig hard drive and be able to serve me popcorn and soda while I watch my rented 1080p movie that I downloaded wirelessly while sitting on my lazy butt in my recliner.

I agree. It's only a $299 box too. It does some really amazing things. The streaming on it is brilliant, and it brings so much great media to my television and surround sound system. Great music with beautiful on-screen art, TV shows, various videos and clips I have and put into H264, podcasts, etc. On and on. It does so many things. I simply love my apple TV.

My widescreen HD television was missing something, for quite a while. It was missing Apple. It has it now.

i love my atv. it does what i want it to do. play movies and stream music in my bedroom.

the one feature i would like is a WIFI iTunes store. and a web browser!

I think you mean "couldn't care less"

I'm sorry but thats a pet peeve of mine :p

I have been looking at buying an appletv myself but its performance for decoding high definition files has turned me off

Like the iPhone, the :apple:TV is not perfect. BUT, it is perfect for me. That's why I bought it. I expect no updates and require not but for bug fixes.

rtdgoldfish, I'm with you.

We use ours everyday. Movies, YouTube, Podcasts (especially the National Geographic video ones), and music through our theater system. This is the most used tech product we have, besides cell phones and our computers.

I agree.

While I don't have an AppleTV, nor do I plan on getting one. (Don't watch to much TV/movies.) I respect that it is a great product for some people.

The same thing goes for the iPod Hi-Fi. It's not for everyone but I love mine and use it everyday.

Too funny!

I was just thinking this when someone posted again yesterday complaining about it, but didn't own one.

I was about to reply and tell them to just reply to the one of 300 threads exactly like his, but I didn't want to start a flame war.

The thing does exactly what I bought it for. Would it be nice if it did more, yeah, but I already have a DVR and a Blu Ray Player and a Kitchen sink! LOL

Did these folks ever do ANY research on products that do all that stuff? They are well over $1000. What do people expect for $300? Go check out Sonos and then bitch about how expensive the ATV is. I'd like Apple to open up access to more codecs and maybe streaming radio, but the kitchen sink??? :p

I agree 100%. If Apple decided not to support :apple:TV from this point on, it wouldn't matter. It does everything I need it to do. Movie Rentals would be icing on the very delicious cake.

Let me get onboard the Apple TV love-fest. I use mine daily, and since I have got it I have found myself watching so many podcasts, I am considering dropping my cable.

It has really change the way I use my entertainment system. Of coarse I would welcome any updates/additional feature. But I am very pleased with the way it works now!

Amen, brother. Don't forget that it should give you a foot massage while you watch your 1080p movie. Only upside is if Apple listens to these goobers and drops the product, I'll pick up one for every room in the house at the fire-sale prices.

I guess if you enjoy watching movies on a computer screen or running a 40-foot DVI cable across your house, Apple TV is not for you.

i completely love my apple tv. it does a very good job of getting my media from my computer to the tv where i can enjoy it more.

unfortunately i think the reason it gets bad comments and hasnt been doing that great is because its a little ahead of its time. i think the main idea is to deliver content. but right now it does not do a good job at that. it 'only' works with HD tvs but does NOT deliver 'true' HD content. also it seems to 'lack' a dvd player or blue-ray player, but again that is just saying it lacks HD content delivery. they should either have the apple tv function with standard def tvs, or it should be able to deliver HD content. if it functioned flawlessly in delivering HD content, i think the apple TV would actually become a competitive format to HD-DVD or blueray, and just say forget the physical media in general (similar to how the iPod has (nearly) done away with CDs). but i think the apple TV is ahead of its time right now, and mostly ahead of the big movie companies and them settling on the next sort of format to deliver their movies.

in conclusion (and to repeat myself yet again) the appleTV is a great product, but the content delivery is the flaw, but people tend to blame this on the appleTV.

Definitely content delivery.

But now with iPhones, video on Nanos, the Touch, Leopard's Frontrow looking like :apple:TV, iTunes WiFi store, Apple will update and "converge" everything into a really cool system...
