Sick of Apple’s Cheapness with iCloud

Not giving into apples upgrade my iCloud subscription due to iCloud being full.

Bunch of BS , 5gb then 50gb then 200Gb..

First tier of paid iCloud storage should be 64Gbs then 256Gb, etc but no they want to squeeze more money out of you each month..

Love my Apple products but this is starting to really be annoying. Manual Backups via my computer from now on.

I agree but it used to be a lot worse.
I never thought they would do 99 cents for 50gigs but they did.
The free tier needs to change. It should be 10-25gigs for each device if you ask me.

Online storage isn't free anywhere so I don't see where this vitriol coming from since it's pretty inexpensive. I'm not sure Apple's being the cheap one here....especially when it's 99 cents for 50 gb/3.00 for 200. I can understand if you're on an extreeeeemely tight budget, but I'm guessing you really won't even miss this money. It's literally chump change.

Agreed. $12/yr is damn good for 50GB. I'm on the $2.99/200gb plan and $36/year is totally worth it.

One could always get the Google Drive 15gb free (unlimited for Google Photos) if you don't mind them scanning and retaining in perpetuity all of your files and photos.

True. But it’s too bad the 50GB option can’t be shared (it would have been enough for my family). For family sharing you have to choose the 200GB option or higher.

Well, I got 1 TB of cloud storage for free when I bought MS Office 365. I also upgraded iCloud to 50GB for a whopping $.99 a month. That's not bad.

I only have an iPhone now, as my 1st gen iPad mini is too slow for most stuff, and the prices of new iPads ... not for me. But I have friends who don't back up as their totals, including iMessages now, don't fit into 5GB and they can't be bothered to sign up for monthly payments for more storage.

Yes, it's "only" $1/month but come on - just add $10 or whatever onto the cost of the phone and be done with it.

Me thinks doth complain too much. Isn’t 200Gb like 2.99 a month. You can’t even get a vente Starbucks for that price. I betcha you drink more than that in a day, let alone a month. I think iCloud is a bargain for what it costs.

If that’s too much for you try this suggestion. Get a Barclays credit card and receive reward points for everything you charge, double at restaurants, and triple for any Apple stuff. Then have your rewards paid in iTunes cards.

Been doing it for years now, have not paid anything for iTunes, iCloud, movies, music, apps in over four years. Currently have $700 credit with iTunes. And if you pay the card off each month, it’s totally free money, zero interest. I charge everything and have the card on Apple Pay. Make $25 for every 2500 points.

Cloud storage is literally the only thing at Apple that is reasonably priced. Not everyone needs more storage and the life of a device could be up to 4-5 years so $10 wouldn't cover it. Just remove your photos off of iCloud and use Google to backup your info and you can get it for free. It's 3 cups of coffee (or 2 depending on where you go) or 1 movie ticket to have 50GB of storage.

$10 would cover it. If they currently charge $1/month for 50GB, then how much would it cost to give 5GB for the average life of a phone? As I said in my comment, it's not the cost it's the fact many people aren't interested in signing up for cloud storage even if cheap - they just buy the phone and enable backups and expect it to work whether they have one device or a few.

I've tried explaining to people that for $12/year they can get 10x the storage they currently have and they just shrug. No interest.

And it's half a movie ticket at Swiss cinema prices!

Re: 40GB free on OneDrive: same here. Seem to recall it was similar to Box service where "sign up for this", "check security settings", "tell a friend", "enable this or that" and get N-GB extra. And now grandfathered in: MS tried to pull the plug on that a few months ago, but folks caused a stink.

On a grandfathered Google plan: $5/yr for 40GB.

Amazon, $12/yr for 100GB.

Free iCloud combined with free 5GB of Dropbox, plenty of space, for me, for day-to-day usage. OneDrive, Amazon, Google for archival files. Amazon for pictures.

I always do a backup on my MBA and an external hard drive. And speaking of NEW MBA 2018, I maybe upgrading my 2011 MBA to that or MBP with 256 for more backup storage.

Lol, I looked at mine and somehow I have 30 GB for free on OneDrive that I don't even use. I think it was 5GB free from this old laptop I'm typing on and maybe some from the Windows phone I used to have. Ok, so maybe it's free sometimes And thanks for reminding me I have stuff on One Drive. I've been thinking of going solely Apple and deleting my crap from Google, etc.
