Anyone sick of all the crappy ebooks yet?

One of the stupidest and most annoying things about the old Palm software repositories was the idea that ebook titles (or books of any kind) were the same as "apps" (they are not).

This meant that any search on an app site for Palm ended up giving you the results you were looking for, ... plus sixty or so random ebook titles.

Now I like books, I have a house full of them, and I would like to see a good ebook reader app for the iPhone, but the books have to go. They are already cluttering up the interface and making the whole enterprise look like *****.

There should be ebook readers in the app store and ebooks should have their own section in my opinion.

... although their prevalence is underscoring the need for a good, free ebook reader with access to local content, so that text, HTML, PDF and the like can be read off-line.

Nothing to stop folks embedding books in an application and selling (or giving away) their results in the AppStore, but if it continues at least create a separate section for such ebook-apps, so that they don't overwhelm the selection!

I don't like them cluttering the "Entertainment" section. I agree that they need an eBook section.

I also wish there was something that could be developed to make popular books eBookable with copyright protection. J.K. Rowling is being a turd about eBooks and not letting them be done at all ("they should be experienced on paper!"). Sometimes, I just want to have a book on me yet not carry something that is bulky and adds weight. Surely Apple could create an eBook format with DRM that you could download with the purchase of a book (no, I don't want to pay $25 for JUST an eBook like they do with audiobooks).
