Sierra continuing the anti-privacy, anti-control iOS-ification of OS X?

I have several concerns with Sierra:

iCloud sync.

I do NOT want Apple to arbitrarily and without asking me to suck all of my files off my Desktop and Documents folders into their control, i.e. iCloud. Is this enabled by DEFAULT, and can it be turned OFF?

What other privacy-killing backdoors have been built into this release?

You know, it's just that things like Disk Utility getting dumbed down every new version of OS X, allowing us, the users, less and less control over our Macs.

Over in the Windows world, Win 10 is an absolute nightmare with Microsoft being a front end to the NSA spy grid. You can't turn off Win 10 from reporting back to MS-NSA whether you like it or not.

Hysteria or not, the agenda is clear: Get everyone into the cloud and be at the mercy of a big corporation that is tied in with the government.

If you have not figured out that Apple is not Microsoft by now, I do not think there is anything I can say that will help you. I agree wholeheartedly that there are some companies that you should simply have nothing to do with.

I agree. The mac OS is slowly but surely developing into a platform to make all personal files and communications dependent on icloud. For privacy minded individuals the industry wide effort for cloud dependence is not a positive move.

The industry is definitely moving towards a cloud centric perspective. Apple is only doing what others before them have.

AFAIK, no one is required to use icloud, or store their documents on the cloud.

Apple is also marching towards having macOS more like iOS, to what end, I do not know. Hopefully not to the degree we don't have file systems, or the ability to make changes to the system that best suits our individual needs.

Thankfully no one is required yet to store files on icloud, perhaps the progression will be natural seeing that Mac internal drive options are pretty expensive and non-upgradeable.

If Apple "progresses" to the point on non-useable file system, that will be the end of using (modern) macs for me.

There's a number of initiatives and philosophical changes that Apple is embracing that is giving me pause. I typically try to choose the best tool for the job, and for many years that has been Macs and macOS.

I wouldn't call iCloud integration anti-privacy. I call it bloat. Sierra appears to be El Capitan with a few extra features tied to Apple phones and tablets. Nothing in the way of hardware optimization or performance enhancement. That leaves no reason for me to upgrade. I am waiting to be proven wrong. I haven't seen it yet.
