Hello,

I have Sierra 10.12.6 and I just bought GTX1080 Founder's Edition (yeah I was a lucky guy).
Now it works fine on Boot Camp without any drivers needed, but on Mac OS since this is not flashed I don't see any screen.

Also I can't seem to login to Mac OS.

I tried downloading the latest driver which was posted on Jan 28 2018, but it says

Mac OS X version is not compatible. 10.12.6 (16G1212) is required for this update.

But mine is 10.12.6! I also tried looking at older drivers like Jul 2017's, but still same error message.

I do not have any Nvidia drivers installed yet.
Can anyone help me on this? Thanks.

You need to know the build number in order to get the correct driver, OS version doesn't mean much this days.

I got that and actually followed something that you posted on other post (step by step to install the latest driver). But now after restart my screen is blank and I was using GTX680 Mac Edition. Help!

If you are using the 680 Mac Edition. Then it should not show you the blank screen. At least, you should able to see the boot logo, and the loading bar, etc. Anyway, you may just holding shift during start up, this will bring to into the safe mode. Install the corresponding Nvidia web driver at there, and then restart your Mac.

I don't have experience of 10.12.6's web driver, but you may need to enable SIP, or check if there is anything waiting for you to "allow" in Gatekeeper.

Ok i just got into safe mode and i can see the screen. However the graphic is really glitchy. How can i go back to pre-install of that stuff i did? I clicked nividia driver but it says i cant open it.
[doublepost=1519413116][/doublepost]Thankfully i had a time machine backed up so i am restoring it...whew...

In the meantime it looks like build is 16g1114. How can i know if my build will be 1080 compatible?

you need the driver version 378.05.05.25f04

It's just "web driver version" vs "macOS build number". As long as you get it right. Most 1080 should able to work properly (those highly customised 1080 may have issues).

Right now I just used a Time Machine and recovered it. But it is still very glitchy. The graphic is extremely choppy. I don't see the Nvidia app anymore since I recovered it from my Time Machine but I don't know what's wrong.

I will test it out with the driver you just showed me. Crossing fingers.

If this doesn't work, what would be my next course of action?
Reinstall Apple graphic driver? Reinstall Mac OS?

If you mean the GTX680, simply perform a PRAM reset, which will make your Mac fall back to Apple driver.

If you mean the 1080, you have not much choice but figure out how to install the web driver properly. However, you may upgrade to High Sierra which seems a better platform for the GTX 10xx series card.

Thanks PRAM helped getting rid of the choppiness I experienced. And I even changed it back to Nvidia driver but it is still looking good.

However, now my question is, what is the GTX1080 web driver version for Mac Sierra? The only reason I avoided High Sierra was I heard 1) it’s not as safe as Sierra, and 2) I heard the file system changes so you can’t go back to older versions.

Does anyone else or you know which web version will support GTX1080 for Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6?

I get all my updates from here: http://www.macvidcards.com/drivers.html

I have a GTX1080, not a founder's edition, but it has been flashed to have EFI giving it a startup screen. Drivers from the site listed above have always worked for me. I am running High Sierra 10.13.3 but the drivers for your version are listed too.

Your 1080 should work with the driver I posted.

If you already install and selected the web driver with the 680, you should able to swap the 1080 in, and it should work.

High Sierra should be safer than Sierra, however, may be less stable. But in my own experience, 10.13.3 is a very stable release, should be more or less same as Sierra.

And you can install High Sierra without converting to APFS. If you really converted, you can still clone it back to a HFS+ partition. I personally agree that should avoid APFS. I used that since HS launch, relatuvely unstable with almost zero real world benefit. And I finally went back to HFS+ few weeks ago. Now I am a happy HS user with my 1080Ti.

Ok resurrecting this thread again...But I tried using 1080 with the same driver and version as per original post but GTX1080 isn't loading up on my Sierra.

And since it has been a while now, is Mojave more stable and better version than Sierra & High Sierra, and moreover is that even compatible with Nvidia GTX680 or 1080 or any other non-supported Nvidia cards? I see that a lot of new cool features were added on Mojave (which seems to be more practical usage for me since High Sierra features weren't really attractive to me in the first place), and I would like to know if it's also easy to go back to Sierra if I don't like it (without converting to APFS file system).

Thanks h9826790 in advance if you were going to help answering my question.
