I just got my 2016 13" MBPtb. I also have a Dell U2515H 1440p 25" monitor that I would like to use along with the MBP. It connects fine (via Multiport av adapter --> HDMI cable) and displays 2560x1440@60hz.

However, if I set the resolution to anything other than native 1440p (which is too small for me at 25") it simply lowers the resolution, not offering the usual HiDPI modes. What I would like to do is have 1440p resolution output at 1080p (or close to) scaling.

I've googled this for quite a while, but haven't found a working solution. Apparently Sierra introduced this bug? Has anyone found a solution? I'd be willing to install a public beta if that solves it.

All answers are greatly appreciated.

Same monitor, same problem. It's super nice to work with on 125% scaling in Windows 10, but way too small in it's native resolution in Sierra. I connected it via USB-C to DisplayPort adapter and ran into the same problem, haven't found a solution to this yet.

I use it in Windows 10 with the exact same scaling (125%, effective 2048x1152 screen space) and it looks great. When i set it to 2048x1152 in Sierra the whole thing is a blurry mess. Let's hope Apple fixes this soon! Though my hopes aren't high, as Sierra has been out for a while with no signs of them fixing it :(

As far as I know, HiDPI is only available on 4K or 5K displays. It's by design and not "broken".

If you want to activate HiDPI mode manually, here are some directions:
How to Enable HiDPI Mode in Mac OS X - TekRevue
I tried doing that, but it still just gives me 1440p native along with lower resolutions. None of them HiDPI.

Surely people are not expected to run 1440p native when using small screens? The 13" MBP is basically a taller 1440p display and that is scaled down.

I don't know how accurate that article is... I'm using the same monitor as the author and I have many more options that him in the Display system preference. I updated to the latest versions of macOS within a day or two of their availability. Also, I have never had to do any hacks, etc to make these resolutions available.

does that still work on the latest version of MacOS or are your scaling options gone now? and what kind of Mac are you on if I may ask?
[doublepost=1537803827][/doublepost]looks different on my Dell U3216Q monitor which is 4K too... I cannot scale to other HiDPI settings unfortunately..
