Sierra installed but very broken

Anyone else get this screen after installing? The login screen came up, but after entering details, I get this 'bricked' screen.

How far does it get in verbose mode? Hold down Command+V when booting and take a photo.

Good shout. Doesn't like my BT4 USB dongle. Unplugged and trying again.

So how can I now switch back to the internal BT controller. It's seemingly looking for it still even after disconnecting? I was using a BT single on my MBP 2010 for MIDI stuff.

OS X tends to load graphics drivers just after bluetooth. What hardware are you running?

You are missing a graphics driver for sure. Try booting recovery and if it loads then copy all graphics kexts via terminal to main partition and delete or rebuild kext cache.

I've gone back to recovering El Cap. I'll try again in beta 3. Standard Mid 2010 15inch but with a Samsung EVO SSD running latest firmware.

So I installed on a new partition and everything is fine. I've also rebuilt the kexts cache etc using '
sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/ && kextcache -Boot -U /' (after disabling crs). I'm too scared to upgrade to Sierra now, so I'm working to do a clean install on the new partition and will ultimately Time Machine restore Docs and Apps over to there from El Cap.

I encountered the prohibition sign more than once. If I recall correctly, the problem was not limited to Sierra.

… Disconnecting then reconnecting the drive – whilst the no entry sign was on screen – allowed startup to continue. Potentially nerve-wracking, but entertaining.

The visual corruption, in the second of your photographs in post 3, was part of that entertainment.

In my case it was not a missing graphics driver.

I'm glad that you worked around the problem in your case. If it recurs, feed the bug to Apple.
