Hi All,

thanks for allowing me to join you all.

I have installed Sierra GM on 2 Macbook and Macbook Pro of mine - and they are both seeming to keep running after closing the lid.

I did notice that the battery is running out overnight - and realised it because its still on - even though the lid is closed and the laptops should be in sleep mode.

Any thoughts?

Its only since I installed Sierra GM.

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony,

Last night I installed Sierra and came back from work this afternoon and SAME ISSUE!

I had closed the lid when I went to bed. When I came home my 2015 rMBP was hot to the touch and completely flat!

To make matters worse it's now not finding the OS at all.

What the heck?

I have had it happening too since Beta 7. I heard a buzzing in my bag one night after work and opened it to find my 13" rMBP in a raging inferno. The fan was screaming loud, which is great because I never would have heard it otherwise. It has happened two other times after that. I've narrowed my problem down to either certain tabs running in Google Chrome when I put the laptop to sleep or bluetooth. The only bluetooth devices paired to my Mac are at the office so I'm not sure if that is it, but I have not been able to get it to do it with Bluetooth off and Chrome Running, or Chrome Running and Bluetooth on... so maybe it is a combo of both? I don't know. For now I am closing all tabs in Chrome and turning off Bluetooth before leaving the office.

I did try an NVRAM and SMC reset, but it did it again once after that. For me, it is not happening on every lid closed sleep, maybe one in every eight. Also I have not reported to Apple as I have not been able to ID and replicate the exact conditions of the problem to be able to report it. You guys are the first I have found online experiencing this with the Sierra beta

Everyone thank you so much for your feedback. I did try the NVRAM Reset and it seems to be working.

Fingers crossed.

Thank you so much for all your help.

I don't know if it is related, but my iMac frequently wakes up when I am logged out and put the Mac to sleep. Both the iMac display and secondary LED Cinema Display come on and stay on for about 20 minutes, and then the Mac goes back to sleep. This happens every hour or two.

I have Power Nap disabled but Wake for Network Access enabled. The displays stay on for longer than I would expect for a maintenance wake, which should be a darkwake anyway.

It may happen while I am logged in and put the Mac to sleep, but I have not yet witnessed that.

This behavior did not occur in El Capitan.

Hi guys, I have been having the same problem since day one after updating to Sierra. When I take out my MBP Pro Retina 15" of the bag it's hot like lava. This happens at least half of the times I close the lid.

Since then I've removed all background apps like dropbox, drive, caffeine, 1password, but the problem persists.

However, I have noticed one small problem that's bothering me since the update. When I wake up the computer in a place with a different wifi network it never connects, I have to select the network again. If I go to the activity monitor I see that the process airportd has huge loads of memory allocated to him (not sure if related).

Might this be the problem? Does this happen with anyone else?
