Haven't tried it yet on my Mini Server, and stayed away from El Capitan Server until 5.15 came out. Building on what satcomer wrote, I'd offer that I'd wait for a stable release based on the feedback of those who can't wait - I never update my work PCs anymore and let others go first if what I have now works fine. The last few updates of the current app were/are pretty stable, and I haven't seen much chatter in the Apple Dev forums yet and I don't know if that's a good/bad thing...

They tend to come out about 2-3 weeks after the new version on Mac OS is releaed. Sometimes even 2-3 months so you never know!
Apple released server 5 prior to shipping El Capitan, shipped Server 4.0 concurrent with Yosemite shipping, and shipped Server 3 concurrently with Mavericks. There is basically never been a delay in shipping the Server app that's necessary for a new version of OS X/macOS.
It's most likely that the next version of Server will ship no later than Sept. 20.

Server 5.2 beta 4 is the latest release of Server to my knowledge, I expect we'll see it go gold with or shortly after Sierra. I don't think there will be a 6.0 this year.

rockin the 5.2 Server here, so far so good!

It will just be Server version 5.2
Ever since 5.0 (came out with OS X 10.11) Apple has made the server "OS independent" (Yosemite or higher needed though).

I would qualify it as 'somewhat' OS independent as the last two years' public OS beta program made the publicly available Server unusable in the beta. (And I don't see any documentation warning the beta testers of this)

macOS Server 5.2 seems stable here on numerous servers. Seems to have fixed serveral Mail server issues too.

When you sign up for the beta program you are notified of implications of running beta software. Furthermore the only way to obtain Server.app beta is to have a developer account.
