Sierra update has disabled a feature in finder that I really can't do without!?

Wondering if someone can help me, it's a bit hard to explain.

Basically I'm a graphic designer and I create a lot of files with similar names. For example 'New_Advert_November2016_Draft1' then 'New_Advert_November2016_Draft2'

I used to be able to click on an existing file in finder when saving and it would grab file name and place it into my new Save As file name area, so I could quickly delete the '1' and replace it with '2', but now, since the update it wont do it and I' am having to type the whole file name out each time. Is there a way to re-enable this?

Still works for me.

Just to quickly test it, I opened a PDF, did a "Save As" and then clicked a filename in the pop-up window which appeared.

I'm on 10.12.2 beta 1 (second release ).

Just a thought, but Apple released two versions of 10.12.1 that week. The App Store update on Monday was 16B2555, and the current App Store version, released on Thursday, announcement day, was 16B2657. You might try updating to the later version to see if that helps. You can also download the update from the support site as a .dmg file.
