Hi all

strange problem, ever since running the first beta 1, and all the later beta versions of sierra, i have this issue on both 3 mac´s

I have a Synology DS415 Nas, that i store all my excel files on, and it has worked flawlessly the past years, until sierra.

Now what happens is that if i try to open the files, directly from the NAS using finder, the spinning wheel appears.

It opens Microsoft Excel, but the program just hangs, and i have to right click and shut excel down, after that Finder hangs, and i have to reboot to get the system to work again.

If i copy the excel file from the NAS to the Desktop on the mac, if opens fine?

this happens on all 3 mac´s running latest version of sierra 10.12 beta

i have the latest versions of Microsoft Excel for MAC installed, and my synology has the latest firmware installed?

does anyone have any ideas?

Sincerely

Carsten Larsen

Which protocol are you using to connect to the NAS? SMB or NFS? I've always been using NFS mounts myself. (mind you, I don't have Excel installed at the moment on my Sierra system..). You should try the other protocol.

It does sound like it could be a permissions issue. (maybe you have read, but not execute permissions on that share? maybe not write?). Either that or Sierra isn't getting the translation of those permissions from the NAS properly (entirely possible). Worth double-checking on the server side.

Write about it also to Synology, maybe they will find something.
Check if you are using afp or smb, I had some problems and moved from afp to smb.
Cannot check it now, because I had problems with firewall on Sierra and had to revert back to el capitan.

Hello all, i was connection trough finder and it was via AFP, i have now tried to connect via SMB and that has helped, is there anywhere that you can tell sierra, to always connect via SMB instead of afp?

Finder usually uses what your most recent connections have been, so in time they'll all get populated with SMB paths.
You could also create aliases to your network shares on your desktop using an SMB path...then you just double-click on them like they're local and they get mapped.

Same here (latest beta of MacOS Sierra). The problem is that, as soon as the app (whichever, not only Excel, it applies to Pages, Omniplan etc) tries a background save, the whole system crashes. The app, the finder, all of it. The only solution is to restart the computer. Very, very, very, utterly, greatly frustrating indeed. (worked like a charm in previous OS X release). I won't update my office (7 machines) until Apple and/or Synology fix this issue.
[doublepost=1473768105][/doublepost]Yes, I have send the feedback to apple on this issue.
