They got 3600 in gold, all my bank goodies including the bags, and my 2 good weapons I had on my lvl 70 warrior. I was a miner/blacksmith so I had tons of bars and gems for making things. Hell, they even cancelled two blue item auctions I had going as well as some thorium, adamantite and fel iron bars I had up for bid. *sigh*

I got an email from Blizz this morning that said my pw was chaged.
It had to of happened between 9 pm last night and 7 am this morning.
Blizz customer service does open until 8 am.
I have not asked Blizz what they can do as far as getting my stuff back but I'm taking this as a sign that maybe I should stop playing.

Two of my friends had this occur to them and blizzard restored their accounts after a couple of e-mail exchanges and/or phone calls.

Sounds painful, get your account restored, give away all your gear to your guild and friends and then stop playing
yes a much better way to do. but certainly get in contact with Bliz so they can restore the items and that. sooner the better.

Give them a call , they will probably ban any account those jerks have plus get your stuff back.

what are the odds of getting keylogged while using OSX?

I had my account hacked into so I feel your pain. At the time I had 21 characters so when I called Blizzard they wanted me to contact a Game Master. So after talking with the game master he asked for me to find out what all my characters had, items, gold, etc.. There was no way I could've remembered so I hit thottbot and wrote down some really cool items. Nothing to the extreme like from Kara but some upgrades. I got back with the GM and gave him my list of stuff. Turns out they were only able to restore two of my characters with most of their old stuff, not all their gold.
I hope you didn't sign on over an open WiFi network? Or even WEP can be easily broken. Use VPN if you gotta do that. That's a bummer.
Gave me a wake-up call. I work where I have to change my password every 90 days. Sounds like it might be a good idea to modify mine. Have not done it since I first started playing. And strong passwords and never over an open wi-fi are both good ideas! Sorry to hear about your loss!

When I talked to Blizz last night, the rep was telling me all these things to look for and that he would send me a few links for free virus scans. I told him I was on a Mac and he just got quite for a couple of seconds. He then told me to try a google search for a free Mac virus scan.
I don't dl any stuff from the bit torrent sites and my wow account had no mods whatsoever. In fact, I had to buy a new copy 2 weeks ago to run on my MBP.

Why did you have to buy a new copy? The disk is PC and Mac together...
Just out of curiosity, is there, say, a chance you had a raid scheduled for today and a non-WoW-addicted girlfriend who could guess your password? That might explain a lot.

- related to your username or something a casual acquaintance could easily find out about you?
- something you've reused to log into other web sites?
- entered on a web page you linked to from an email claiming to be from Blizzard?
- entered on a page claiming to offer some WoW-related service?
- shared with any other human being, ever?
sorry to hear about all you dudes who have had your accounts hacked. this has not happened to me yet and i hope it doesn't, i'd be pretty pissed to lose all my gold/gear/items.

instead of buying the game again, you can download the game from Blizzard for free. that's what i did when i got my MBP. i couldnt find my original discs. my xpac discs worked fine though.

The problem is most probably a malicious script that runs hidden on a website you visited. That is by far the most common way theses "keyloggers" get your passwords. I would recommend you rethink the sites you visit and if possible, switch to firefox and install the NoScript addon. This addon will only let you turn on the scripts you want in a loaded website by right click on them and selecting so. These keyloggers like to hide the scripts in the bottom corners of a site and they size their frames to 0 or 1.
