No pricing yet on the Sigma, but it's sure to be less than $4,000.

Petapixel concludes that the Sigma handily beats both the Nikkor and Sony 50mm f/1.4 lenses (no Canon in the test.) They conclude:
To our eye, the Sigma lens more than keeps up with the Otus and obviously outperforms the other two lenses, particularly in the corners.

It's nice to see a 3rd party challenge the major vendors, let alone Zeiss. It'll be interesting to see DXO numbers at different apertures and how it handles contrast and color rendition, but it's looking very interesting.

Looks very promising. My only concern with Sigma is AF... I'm afraid their last generation of lenses pretty much ruined the brand for me. I think they have a pretty deep hole to dig themselves out of to regain respectability from many Canon shooters.

Depending on the price, looking at the sample images, that's a lot of shovel. I don't shoot 50mm often, but at the right price, this lens becomes very tempting.

I've heard nothing but good things about the more recent offerings, especially the 35 1.4, w.r.t. AF performance.

I am glad that Sigma is putting out these lenses and ideally at a lower cost than Zeiss and other fine lens makers. Perhaps they will not only capture a larger market, but force other lens makers to be a bit more competitive.

I use Fuji XF lenses for my camera and while they are not cheap, they certainly are not crazy high in price. They are not the fastest lenses (save for the 56mm 1.2) but impressively sharp with nice bokeh. They are on par with the Touit lenses from Zeiss (some say better).

Sigma is producing some outstanding high quality lenses these days. I remember when they were considered to be inferior in construction
